The Rescue Mission is seeking a Program Manager to manage processes and provides direct leadership and guidance to the staff of our Emergency Shelter and New Life Day Center. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that the Shelter is operational and staffed 365 days per year with quality customer service for all clients. The Program Manager must operate with a broad understanding of the various needs of the client populations, ensures that the program is staffed, and that the environment is safe and supportive for all individuals.
Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Direct supervision of Emergency Services Program staff. Responsible for providing coaching and counseling to all Program staff to develop their skills in their daily responsibilities of operating an emergency shelter and day center
- Manages and develops staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching and counseling and delegating authority to employees. Also implementing and coordinating training for new hires and current employees.
- Ensure that all programs are fully staffed by developing and maintaining a work schedule that meets the requirements of OTDA for the Emergency Shelter and Day Center. Weekend, evening, and on call hours are necessary.
- Ensures the quality of client services by monitoring performance measures, maintaining standards or excellence, implementing “best practices” coaching and monitoring, training and evaluating job results.
- Cultivates an atmosphere of cooperation and caring consistent with the values of Hospitality Services. Fosters a team approach by building rapport, problem solving and networking with other programs and department at the Rescue Mission and within the local community.
- Partners and collaborates with the Housing and Homeless Coalition, Onondaga County, the City of Syracuse and other local agencies to provide the most effective and valuable services to the community. Attends regular community meetings on a monthly basis.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory guidelines for all contract policies, regulations and requirements. Ensures the integrity of billing and census records and confirmation processes.
- Achieves program financial objectives by participating in the development of annual budgets, overseeing budget expenses such as staff hours, overtime and supplies ensuring proper stewardship of resources.
- Maintains client confidentiality by keeping a strict “need to know” policy and monitoring the handling of confidential information.
- Models the employee-client boundaries at all times.
- Promotes a safety first attitude by setting a positive example and ensuring all employees are following safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in human services, health services or related field or equivalent work experience required.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
Previous Experience Requirements
- Two years staff management/supervisory experience required.
- Prior experience working with homeless, addicted and/or mentally disabled clients desired.
