POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The Director, Learning Strategy & Operations role is responsible for providing a broad strategic vision, leadership for the growth of key capability areas, driving operational excellence and coordinating budget planning for the CL&D organization. In collaboration with the VP of CL&D, this role manages the CL&D Strategic and resource plans. This individual collaborates across all CL&D functions to ensure the smooth running of day to day operations, introduction of innovation and technology, on-boarding and upskilling of CL&D staff, captures results and forecasts trends, and pilot new approaches to learning. This position is responsible for a centralized budget and a full vertical team of key enablers including Program Management, Training Co-ordination, Instructional Design and Technology.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Leads the development and monitors the execution of the CL&D Strategy including design and development solutions of Commercial Learning curriculum, courses, technology and distance-based platforms, and oversees their development with the goal of applying pharmaceutical industry and adult learning best practices to drive commercial results.
- Oversees the development, tracking and implementation of all CL&D cost center budgets for Plan, LBE and communicates favorability or unfavourability on a monthly basis. Provides updates and makes budgetary recommendations to VP and Directors on an ongoing basis. Manages multi-million-dollar budget.
- Ownership of On-boarding systems, SOPs and processes for all commercial training initiatives including Initial Sales Training, Commercial Capabilities conceptualization, and on-going assessments of learning platforms, systems and tracking, compliance material retention, measurement and audit requests
- Ownership of CL&D Competency Models to define, assess, and up skill department by empowering team to reach their full potential and better partner with both internal and external partners.
- Serves as a hub for innovation across the department and consistently forecasts and pilots new and novel approaches for learning.
- Creates, marketing, and management of internal branding initiatives and communications for CL&D department.
- Manages the CL&D Training Center, including its design, operational processes, procedures, and related budget.
- Establishes LS&O department goals and objectives. Leads, develops, and holds self and others accountable for deliverables. Coaches the team to achieve optimal performance.
- Develops processes and operational support for CL&D Directors to oversee the selection of vendors and negotiates contracts throughout the year. Manages vendor relationships to ensure maximum effectiveness.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Business and Education preferred)
- Minimum of 12 years of total experience in life sciences/pharmaceutical Commercial functions
- At least 5 years of Commercial Management experience.
- Strategic Thinking: Notable executive presence to create, forecast, and articulate the CL&D Strategy. Proven ability to synthesize various sources of data to create compelling knowledge base to advise and collaborate with internal department and Commercial partners.
- Operational Execution: Leadership. Ability to set priorities, deliver on deadlines and develop workflow processes and tasks in an evolving, dynamic marketplace. Strong analytical skills and budget management.
- Training Techniques: Understands and connects the latest adult training techniques and issues in large organizations to deliver tailored strategies and frameworks to a diverse set of stakeholders.
- Communication: Ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner, in a variety of formats and media.
- Agility: Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience in Consulting, Strategy, or Finance
- Master’s degree, MBA, or Ph.D in relevant Commercial or organizational field
- IT/eLearning/Web Management Platform knowledge
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. Requires approximately 20 % travel.
