Director, Leadership Development

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

The Director of Field Leadership Development oversees the design and implementation of curricula that support excellence in current and future field-based commercial leaders, create a bench of talent and contribute to retention efforts across the field organizations. The Director is responsible for the creation, execution and evaluation of a Field Leadership development strategy based on a comprehensive assessment of 1st and 2nd line leader performance in partnership with BU/Franchise Heads and National Sales Leaders. Programs will effectively instill Takeda leadership principles and values, coaching/mentoring skills, and effective technical skills specific to high performing field leadership roles.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for the creation of Takeda’s Field Leadership Strategy and programming curriculum for 1st and 2nd line field-based commercial leaders.
  • Aligns programming with business needs through assessment of current and future development gaps using performance/needs analysis, 180/360 feedback, Sales Advisory groups and partnership with Field Leadership.
  • Demonstrates seamless partnership with key business functions and stakeholders to ensure ongoing initiatives meet/exceed stakeholder needs. Collaborates cross-franchise & cross-functionally with business leaders in various locations within the United States.
  • Oversee a values-based approach to leadership education and development, based on Takeda-sim, Takeda leader values, general leadership principles and strong technical skills. Executes on plans using contemporary learning approaches, designing and implementing long-term programs focused on a combination of formal instruction, experiential learning, coaching, and development experiences including rotational and interim development programs.
  • Fosters and drives professional knowledge and skill development to support multiple, diverse business functions.
  • Provides recommendations and solutions to VP, CL&D and Director of USBU Leadership Development on the strategic vision and tactical improvements for the Leadership and Development teams and programs.
  • Identify external vendors and consultants to augment development initiatives to bring high quality services and materials to meet program needs.
  • Effectively manages and develops Field Leadership Development Team members as well as the assigned budget to effectively operationalize development and learning strategies.


EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of total experience in life sciences/pharmaceutical Commercial functions
  • At least 5 years of successful Sales Leadership Experience
  • Strategic Thinking: Notable executive presence to create, forecast, and articulate the Field Leadership Development Strategy.
  • Operational Execution: Demonstrated successful sales and progressive sales leadership roles. Ability to set priorities, deliver on deadlines and develop workflow processes and tasks in an evolving, dynamic marketplace. Strong analytical skills and budget management.
  • Training Techniques: Understands and connects the latest adult training techniques and issues in large organizations to deliver tailored strategies and frameworks to a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Relations & Communication: Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships and credibility with senior commercial leaders. Ability to advise and collaborate with internal departments and Commercial partners. Ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner, in a variety of formats and media.
  • Agility: Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.


Preferred

  • Experience in 2nd Line Field Leadership
  • Master’s degree, MBA, or Ph.D. in relevant Commercial or organizational field
  • IT/eLearning/Web Management Platform knowledge


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. Requires approximately 30-40 % travel.
