Rutgers Student Health is committed to providing comprehensive primary care for all of our students’ health and wellness needs. Our integrated approach to healthcare is designed to support our students’ ability to succeed in their academic, professional, and personal lives.

Our experienced clinical team is comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, health technicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, and substance abuse counselors. Annually our Health and Counseling Centers see about 16,500 students.

Our health promotion department is comprised of certified health education specialists and a registered dietician nutritionist. We also train and employ about 60 peer educators annually. Combined, our professional staff and student health educators conduct about 300 workshops a year.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director for Training for RHS Counseling & Psych Services. This position supports the Director of Training and Staff Development in assessing training needs, developing and delivering training programs to meet identified needs and assessing the outcomes of training.

    Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Maintains a clinical caseload and functions as part of the management team.
  • Offers resources, information, and mentors staff in their clinical training functions.
  • Assists the Associate Director for Clinical Training with APA accredited psychology internship program including enhancements, accreditation, supervision of psychology interns and program development.
  • Coordinates the psychology practicum program.
  • Responsible for recruitment and on boarding of practicum students and provides or oversees their supervision and evaluation.
  • Compiles and maintains all practicum seminar curricula, policies/procedures and clinical practice guidelines for trainees.
  • Offers clinical supervision and leads supervision group for CAPS trainees.
  • Leads supervision of supervision group for practicum supervisors.
  • Offers direct clinical care for University students including triage, emergent, urgent and routine clinical functions.
  • Offers community consultation and intervention for University students.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Doctoral degree (Psy.D., Ed.D., Ph.D.) in counseling or clinical psychology.
  • An active New Jersey license as a practicing psychologist.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to graduate trainees in clinical psychology or a closely related field (e.g. clinical social work, counseling).
  • Experience providing clinical treatment to a diverse client population and ability to articulate and demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to the role of culture in both the treatment and the education processes.
  • Significant experience and comfort level with teaching, public speaking, and experience in working with university students in an outpatient mental health setting.
  • Must be comfortable managing crisis situations, and in assisting and coaching trainees in managing such situations.
  • Significant knowledge, skills and awareness about work with a diverse population.
  • Must provide evidence of training and experience in providing cognitive behavior therapy.
  • The incumbent will train doctoral students enrolled in an APA accredited Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) program.
  • Providing this training requires a doctoral degree and licensure as a psychologist.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and developing training experiences for graduate level clinical trainees.
  • Prefer experience supervising cognitive behavioral therapy trainees.
  • Knowledge and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness practice and working with substance use concerns.
  • A personal vehicle would be helpful for occasional travel to various campus locations, but campus bus service is available.

Equipment Utilized
  • Standard business office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) and an electronic health record.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The position requires extensive periods of sitting and using a computer.
  • Will need to travel to various on-campus locations on occasion but may utilize public transportation.
