The Acquisitions Manager, under the supervision of the Technical Services Manager, plans, organizes, and supervises the services and activities of the Acquisitions Department, including ordering, receiving and processing payments for library books and materials. The Acquisitions Manager manages the expenditure of the library materials budget, develops policies and procedures, provides quality control for staff, and provides timely and responsive feedback to Harris County Public Library (HCPL) staff. With Technical Services Manager oversight, works both independently and with other staff to execute small to large service priorities for the HCPL system.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages Acquisitions Department which is responsible for ordering, receiving and processing payments for library books and other materials
- Ensures acquisitions procedures are properly documented and high degree of accuracy in acquisitions processes is maintained by staff
- Interviews, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates staff
- Manages expenditure of library materials budget
- Monitors service from vendors and ensures compliance with contracts for library materials, including subscriptions and licensing of electronic resources
- Serves as a contact between materials vendors and the Library
- Ensures purchase of library materials is done in accordance with County fiscal procedures
- Creates and maintains files of acquisitions records and reports of material budget spending
- Performs other work as assigned

- Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school
OR
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
PLUS
- At least five (5) years of experience in the library industry or professional accounting
- At least one (1) year supervisory experience
- Detail oriented and great communication skills (written & verbal)
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) and the Internet

Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files up to 20 pounds, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
HOURS:
- Full-Time; 40 hours a week
- Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8am â 5pm
- Hours may vary based on the business needs of the Department
SALARY:
- $33.30 per Hour
- Paid Biweekly
