Position Description

The vice president of operations VP is a member of GEO’s senior leadership team, and leads the operations team. The VP stewards the overall organizational strategy for operations, administration, information technology, finance, accounting and human resources/talent. The VP monitors GEO’s financial situation and supports the senior team, board of directors and other stakeholders with assessing GEO’s financial performance. This position reports to the CEO and has two direct reports, the director of operations and the director of people and culture. The VP has strong management skills and deep knowledge of nonprofit finance, accounting, human resources, technology and administration needs and the ability to contribute to cross-team alignment, collaboration and information-sharing. This job includes between 5-10% travel.

  • Met with the Senior Team to discuss organizational year-end priorities and employee retention strategies
  • Held department meeting to provide overview of operational priorities for year-end and discuss deadlines
  • Lead conversations with Directors/Senior Team about implementation of revised organizational structure.
  • Met with director of operations to discuss 2019 audit plans and timeline
  • Facilitated conversation with Finance Committee Chair on 2020 Budget revision process
  • Worked with director of people and culture to confirm implementation plan for compensation study results
  • Worked with director of operations to review current results of inventory of processes and policies and confirm next steps
  • Worked with director of operations and director of people and culture to develop proposal to building management team to convert bathrooms on Suite floor to gender neutral bathrooms
  • Participated in monthly Strategy Session meeting with Strategy and Learning Team
  • Scheduled check-ins with your direct reports for year-end feedback conversations


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10-12 years of relevant work experience managing operations, administration, information technology, finance, accounting and human resources/talent
  • Broad understanding of the full range of business functions and systems
  • Track record of success in financial planning, budgeting and analysis
  • Demonstrated success in human resource management and employee relations areas
  • Experience in leading and managing teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with grants, contracts, and MOU’s
  • Proficient use of database management systems Salesforce preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in effectively planning and managing the full range of operational infrastructure and administrative needs and services of an organization including IT
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates integrity, strives for excellence in work, and has experience leading and inspiring others to new levels of effectiveness and operational impact
  • Excellent organization, time, and project management skills
  • Flexible and able to multi-task
  • Ability to attend to results, relationships and process in all facets of work
  • Willingness to support an organization in the midst of cultural transformation to integrate a racial equity lens into its mission


Salary and Benefits

GEO offers a competitive salary $130k’s-160k’s and a generous benefits package, including 100 percent employer paid health insurance, three weeks of vacation, twelve sick days, a 7 percent employer retirement contribution, a commitment to professional development and growth, along with a Metro accessible location in downtown D.C.
