SUMMARY

The Vice President, Engineering and Development is responsible for all aspects of the company’s global engineering product development activities. The Vice President of Engineering and Development will focus on the structuring and operation of the product development engineering function as a cohesive unit; conceptualizing and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering manufacturable designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to customer needs.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the Global Leadership Team that sets and executes the company’s strategic direction.
  • Develop and deploy strategic planning methodologies and program management tools for the direction and alignment of product development activities.
  • Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the department.
  • Assure the organization achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame
  • Direct and lead organization to ensure activities to plan and execute development of new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures are executed and delivered.
  • Set, manage and review the forecasted operating costs of the research and development organization in accordance with overall company performance.
  • Demonstrate significant experience in leading the development of team through challenging technical aspects of product and technology development, career planning discussions and strategic objective setting
  • Lead multiple projects, set clear objectives, and allocate and manage resource effectively
  • With solid leadership presence have the ability to attract and retain top level technical talent.
  • Develop, plan and deploy resources effectively balancing between new product development and sustaining requirements and adhering to regulatory compliance and product certifications.
  • Ensure regular industry & customer contact to develop roadmap and identify industry requirements
  • Lead discussions with senior team and local leadership team to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Ensure organization administers effective processes and databases for project status tracking, project time tracking, profitability reporting, and other administrative reporting functions.
  • Initiate and facilitate communication sessions with all company departments as needed to discuss and agree project requirements and schedules.
  • Manage complex or sensitive day to day people management issues and deal with any performance issues in a legally compliant and professional manner

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and organizes work areas for efficiency and safety.
  • Provides status reports to management as required.
  • Respond to change productively and handle other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic direction, vision, and leadership to direct reports including coaching, mentoring and developing.
  • Conducts yearly performance evaluation in cooperation with functional leaders.
  • Confers with superiors, subordinates and other personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • 12-15 plus years’ experience in leading a product development team in an industrial/commercial organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-10 plus years of supervisory experience and directing highly qualified technical staff (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Firmware engineers and Chemists).
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; Master of Science Degree (MS) is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven track record in delivering new product development projects on schedule and within budget
  • Proven experience in; developing and managing project schedules, budgets, measuring, reporting and achieving engineering metrics and managing department and project expenses, resource allocation and administration
  • Experienced working in a global matrix organization, creating and standardizing systems and procedures with global design centers
  • Experience outsourcing and managing product development to contractors and solution suppliers in the global market place
  • Extensive experience in relation to dealing with certification requirements and management of change with certification bodies
