Essential Function
Responsible for the management, strategic planning, budgeting, and daily operation of the residential Mortgage Lending functions. This includes development and marketing of mortgage loan products, staff development, and monitoring the efficiency and timeliness of the mortgage process.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties
  • Responsible for managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Coaches and develops staff through effective leadership and sound practices guided by the Teachers Credit Union Performance Management System and must effectively carry out the essential duties of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates the core values of the organization in a positive manner.
  • Establishes work priorities to facilitate achievement of Teachers Credit Union mortgage loan volume goals
  • Hiring, leading, managing, and developing a team of mortgage loan originators and / or mortgage loan sales managers to achieve and maintain a best in class loan production culture and performance.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the lending staff management process including interviewing, hiring, and training, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance.
  • Responsible for coordinating marketing, product development, and sales training and promotions for the department.
  • Responsible for establishing performance goals and metrics to meet the needs of the members and develop the mortgage lending process as a competitive entity in the mortgage lending markets.
  • Responsible for maintenance and updates of the mortgage computer software and forms development and compliance (assist as needed).
  • Responsible for developing relationships in the community, real estate organizations, secondary markets and government programs.
  • Analyze mortgage lending trends and statistics to improve effectiveness of practices.
  • Identify and launch new/revised loan programs to better serve members and achieve strategic objectives.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of mortgage loan origination systems and identify opportunities for improving system efficiencies.
  • Responsible for managing the mortgage loan fulfillment process to ensure service levels are being met and that business, and member issues are resolved in a timely manner. Work with the AVP and VP of Mortgage Operations on improvements to the processes and make recommendations when necessary.
  • Strategic planning and execution to meet organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Assist with product knowledge, systems, and compliance training programs to all levels of the mortgage team.
  • Participate in goal setting product development and other mortgage loan planning activities.
  • Maintain relationships with retail and branch operations areas to ensure a cohesive team approach.
  • Responsible for departmental compliance with internal and external regulatory, procedural, and policy requirements.
  • Responsible for assisting in coordinating and managing the internal and external audits, exams, and related matters.
  • Performs additional duties as directed by their Manager.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as necessary for the continued growth and advancement of the Credit Union.

Specific Skills
  • Proficiency in evaluation of statistical data, budgeting and planning branch activities necessary to meet financial goals
  • Proficient use of personal computer applications as a management tool is necessary
  • Extensive knowledge of mortgage products, financial services, lending and real estate compliance in addition to sales management techniques
  • Divergent managerial skills including delegation, coaching and demonstrated leadership abilities among peers, the staff and in the community
  • Complex decision-making skills are necessary

Accountability
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the Mortgage Lending function and attainment of strategic goals as set up in the strategic planning processes.
  • Demonstrates a leadership role in development and implementation of strategic planning and employee training and development.
  • Responsible for protection of the Credit Union’s assets through sound lending practices, and operational decisions and branch security.
  • Management of human resources through coaching and development of staff and interpersonal relations with staff and the membership is imperative.


Minimum Requirements
  • College degree and / or equivalent combination of formal training and relevant experience
  • Five or more years’ experience in residential mortgage lending and / or managing a team of mortgage loan originators and / or mortgage sales managers
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and lead a team and / or department mortgage loan production preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, hire, and retain a team of mortgage loan producers preferred
  • Understanding and knowledge of mortgage laws, regulations, markets, processes preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of mortgage loan operating systems and leading / participating in system conversions desirable
