POSITION SUMMARY
Science Sandbox is an initiative dedicated to inspiring a deeper interest in science, especially among those who don’t think of themselves as science enthusiasts. The initiative supports and collaborates with programs that unlock scientific thinking. Launched in 2019, Sandbox Films, a part of Science Sandbox, is a mission-driven documentary studio that champions excellence in science storytelling. Sandbox Films supports and collaborates with production partners and visionary filmmakers to tell new stories about science.
Science Sandbox is seeking a project manager that will plan, execute and finalize the launch of sandboxfilms.org , meeting strict deadlines and staying within budget. They will work closely with Sandbox staff, contracted designers and developers, and our internal web development team to ensure that the new website meets Sandbox Film’s functional, design and branding needs and high standards of excellence in every regard.
This is a full-time, temporary position expecting to last 6 months, starting by the beginning of February 2020.
This position will be located at Simons Foundation’s headquarters in New York City.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with upwards of three third party vendors and Simons Foundation’s internal web development team for the flawless execution of sandboxfilms.org
- Ensure that all stages of the project are delivered on time, within scope and within budget
- Understand and anticipate potential issues or pitfalls, with the ability to produce action items accordingly
- Ensure resource availability and allocation, managing expectations and timelines
- Develop a detailed project plan to track progress
- Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs
- Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
- Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
- Act as the point of contact for managed projects
- Report to the Science Sandbox team on the status of projects
- Perform risk management to minimize project risks
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 7-10 years combined relevant experience as a project manager
- Experience managing several projects involving stakeholders within the digital branding industry
- Basic or intermediate understanding of front- and back-end web development and UX design
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with a specific focus on attention to detail
- Ability to speak comfortably and confidently with stakeholders and executives
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to the demands of particular projects, while meeting deadlines across all active projects and remaining flexible, calm and focused
- Ability to efficiently multitask and track projects
- Enthusiasm about the initiative’s mission
- Relevant certifications in project management, a plus (PMP, CAPM, etc.)
