What you will be doing

The Senior Vice President, Global Operations is responsible for setting the overall operational strategy to maintain and grow our position as the leading specialty logistics provider in the world. This strategy will be underpinned with key initiatives that will have interdependencies within the organization. The SVP, Global Operations will be responsible for implementing these key initiatives while also managing day-to-day activities including customer and partner interactions pertaining to operational activities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The holder of this position may perform the following tasks:

Overall responsibility for key operational functions, strategy and execution.

Transport Operations (with support from VP, Global Transport Operations):

  • International implementation of operational instructions, policies and SOPs in close cooperation with Global QA to ensure alignment with business requirements and regulations
  • Monitor operational progress of World Courier offices and agents and formulate remediation plans when necessary (KPI)
  • Development of systems and procedures to improve global Operations and Quality (Service Enhancement)
  • Overall responsibility for CORE Labs (Climate Optimization, Research and Engineering)

o Development of packaging solutions
o Qualification and technical compliance

  • Lead Network Operations Control (World Operations)

o Notification to the network of global events having impact on the overall service capability (communication issues, service restrictions, security alerts, severe weather conditions etc.)
o Adaptive planning and issue resolution

  • Lead World Courier’s global agent network (approx. 600 domestic and 100 international agents in more than 150 countries worldwide)
  • Oversee the European Overnight Hub & Spoke system (Aerolink)

o Connecting 60 countries within Europe and the US

  • Oversee World Courier Ground Europe (including P&L)
  • Oversee PH1 (packaging hub) including management and optimization of reusable packaging fleet (worth millions of dollars)
  • Development of systems and procedures to improve global Operations and Quality
  • Direct cost optimization (e.g. management of $100M+ of air freight spend)
  • Supervision of Regional Operations Directors
  • Lead NOVA TMS development, implementation and future optimization

Storage Operations (with support from VP, Global Storage Operations):

  • International implementation of operational instructions, policies and SOPs in close cooperation with Global QA to ensure alignment with business requirements and regulations

o Includes both clinical and commercial product storage and alignment of operational instructions, policies and SOPs where possible to streamline execution

  • Monitor operational progress of World Courier storage facilities and formulate remediation plans when necessary (KPI)
  • Build and deliver operational roadmap including transitioning to a single IT platform for clinical and commercial storage
  • Build and maintain multiple year plan for storage facility moves, upgrades and new openings underpinned by strong financial and strategic rationale
  • Monitor overall storage P&L (in conjunction with local country operations responsible for operations), including

o Overall profitability per site, per client and per project
o Activity forecasting including future operational requirements to support growth
o Remediation activities where profitability is lower than expectation

  • In the short to medium term

o Overall pricing for clinical and commercial storage- to be transitioned to Pricing team in a phased manner

Project Management Office (with support from Director, PMO):

  • Overall management and tracking of key projects across the joint WC/ICS organization
  • Owner of standards and methodology deployed
  • With Finance, tracking of milestones and performance to budget

Information Technology strategy (dotted reporting line of IT application development and infrastructure)

  • Develop, prioritize and maintain business-driven IT initiatives for transport operations, for example:

o Future enhancements for NOVA platform (including DASH mobility platform and temperature data)
o Future integrations with partners and customers
o Management of overall spend based on prioritization and need

  • Develop, prioritize and maintain business-driven IT initiatives for storage operations, for example:

o Migration to single storage platform from two separate systems for clinical and commercial work including sunsetting redundant systems
o Future enhancements for storage platform (secure supply chain, serialization, etc.)
o Future integrations with partners and customers
o Management of overall spend based on prioritization and need

  • Develop, prioritize and maintain business-driven IT infrastructure linked to ABC-wide infrastructure initiatives

Quality, including Compliance and Continuous Improvement (dotted reporting line of VP Global Quality)

  • Lead overall QA organization including resource allocation, delegation of responsibilities and overall quality assurance program
  • Develop and implement single eQMS across this organization
  • Monitor key quality metrics and formulate remediation where necessary (with support from linked functions like services, regional or country leadership, etc.)
  • Responsible for Compliance including the implementation and monitoring of AmerisourceBergen’s Foreign Corrupt Practice Standards for all World Courier staff and vendors, GDPR and local requirements (Compliance Officer)
  • Lead Continuous Improvement program across transport and storage operations

Close cooperation with other corporate departments to manage and coordinate project implementations and initiatives (Sales, Marketing, Legal, Finance, HR, Strategy etc.)

What your background should look like (minimum qualifications)


MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Absolute personal and intellectual integrity, maintaining the highest ethical standards, and a strong reputation of excellence in the industry
Must be accountable at all levels of the organization and be able to inspire accountability in his/her team
Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to develop and maintain cooperative working and business relationships with others
Respectful of different cultures and norms
Ability to travel up to 50%
Able to work under laborious and ambiguous conditions

This individual requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accountancy, computer science or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four year bachelor’s degree program or equivalent combination of experience and education. Graduate degree in business administration or related field preferred. Normally requires a minimum of fifteen (15) years directly related and progressively responsible experience. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in the pharmaceutical services space in an operational and/or general management capacity. Requires experience with pharmaceutical supply chain. Experience working with in a matrix organization is highly desirable but not required.
