Position Purpose:

To effectively manage projects and assist in implementing project management best practices and standardization.

As the IT team serving the Global Payments (GP) business, we continue to make significant investment in technology generate new revenues, reduce costs and create scalability. In the coming 2-3 years we are working on building new business products and re-engineering the existing applications. We are looking for an experienced project manager (PM) to manage these IT initiatives. The position is based in New York and the PM will report to the Global Head of Payments IT. This individual will need to be comfortable working in a global delivery environment with teams located in New York, London, Bangalore and other smaller locations. This individual will also manage a team of 2-3 Project Managers located in London and Bangalore.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

As a Project Manager

  • Uses and implements industry standard methodologies such as PRINCE2 and/or PMBOK.
  • Develops full-scale clear, feasible project plans and associated documentation.
  • Develops and delivers engaging, informative, well-organized progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Work with line managers to plan and secure resources needed for the project.
  • Identifies and resolves and/or escalates risks, roadblocks, issues, and conflicts within the project team in a timely fashion with appropriate contingency and mitigation plans. Keep stakeholders informed and in agreement with the decisions made in this process
  • Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical path.
  • Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools to meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Tracks project action items, milestones and deliverables. Regularly check progress of the deliverables with the team (take corrective actions as and when needed) and share status with leaders, product managers, and clients.
  • Develops and shares best practices with team members.
  • Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential crises, and devises contingency plans.
  • Defines project success criteria and disseminates them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle.
  • Consistently acknowledges and appreciates each team member’s contribution and provides performance feedback to line managers
  • Tracks and reports project hours on a weekly basis.

As a lead for Project Management team

  • Works towards standardization of project management practices within the entire group.
  • Consistently acknowledges and appreciates each team member’s contributions.
  • Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Tracks and reports project hours on a weekly basis. Runs steering committee meetings to define scope and priority of projects.
  • Manages the team of Project Managers – one based in London and one in Bangalore to facilitate independent execution of projects
  • Guide/mentor the project managers in cases of conflicts, risk management, escalations, vendor issues etc.
  • Collects performance reviews of project team members from all project managers and provides it to line managers
  • This list of responsibilities may not be all-inclusive and can be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Project management certification (PMP, Prince2, etc) preferred, preferably in Financial Services domain
  • 10-12 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management techniques and tools.
  • Technically competent with various software solutions for project management.
  • Competency and proficiency in understanding of Microsoft platform is plus.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team oriented, collaborative environment is essential in multiple geographies
  • Demonstrated ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to remain flexible during times of change and react to project adjustments and alterations promptly, efficiently and positively.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team consisting of developers and/or project managers.
  • Ability to guide/mentor team members to elevate their performance
  • Ability to persuade, encourage, motivate, and read communication styles of team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines, cultures, and locations.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation and defuse tension with a wide variety of sources including upper management, clients, other departments and the project team through excellent communication skills
  • Must be adept at conducting research into project related issues and products.
  • Must be able to learn, understand and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under time constraints as necessary.
  • Excellent verbal, written and relationship skills used to interact with a global group of technical and non-technical people.
  • Strong customer service and orientation in execution.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
