National Vice President Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for the integration of environmental health & safety services into the business practices and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Cooperate Vice President Environmental Health & Safety oversees responsibilities of all business related activities related to environmental health & safety services and has direct interaction with EH&S Managers, Superintendents, Project Manager, Project Executive, OU EHS Director and Operating Unit EVP’s and SVP/GM. Interaction with Skanska USA Inc.,(Including all associated US Business Units) and Skanska AB EH&S representatives is also expected. This position reports to the Business Unit President.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop, deploy and maintain a world class / industry leading corporate Environmental Health & Safety program for Skanska USA Civil in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001;
- Responsible for compliance with all environmental health & safety regulatory requirements applicable to specific activities;
- Work in conjunction with the Regional / Office EH&S Directors to coach and develop our workforce to meet and exceed our safety standards;
- Work in conjunction with the Regional / Office EH&S Directors to oversee the documentation of all accidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions/activities;
- Conduct work area surveillance inspections, property damage and personal injury investigations;
- Insure investigations are properly conducted and reported to appropriate Corporate entities;
- Review documentation to insure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures and implement appropriate corrective action as required;
- In instances where there is non-compliance, shall immediately implement and maintain corrective actions;
- Frequent local, national and international traveling and frequent onsite inspections;
- Support regional/local offices in providing communications to the community;
- Communicate and enforce Skanska Safety and Health Management Program;
- Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others;
- Communicate and coordinate EHS initiatives with the USAC Senior Leadership Team (SLT);
- Work with Regional/Office EHS Directors on personnel development within the EHS department;
- Manage Envision documentation/deployment/management of environmental health & safety compliance programs;
- Participate in the development and customization of employee and craft environmental training/orientation program;
- Serve as lead spokesperson on environmental and natural resource issues;
- Develop an ongoing cycle of environmental topics that are communicated and insure that these topics are covered in the regularly scheduled job-site meetings;
- Review and coordination of the filing of all accident and environmental, Legal Issues, General Liability reports;
- Work with the Environmental, Health & Safety team to provide top level expertise on environmental subjects;
- Perform inspections and monitor daily to confirm compliance with environmental requirements;
- Participate during spot checks and environmental compliance inspections;
- Responsible for the management and oversight of all environmental issues relating to construction;
- Implementation and compliance with all environmental aspects of the contract (cultural resources, air quality, noise and traffic control, all waste management, etc).
We’re Looking For:
- Strong operational skill set;
- 15 plus years of construction experience at the management level required;
- Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and standards;
- Strong written and verbal communication;
- Ability to lead a team;
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality;
- Ability to understand and follow directions;
- Good time management and organizational skills;
- Computer knowledge (MS Office);
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety / Health, or an engineering discipline degree or equivalent combination of training and related experience;
- Knowledge and experience working with Regulatory Agencies such as, OSHA, EPA, DOT and others as appropriate.

Work Environmental/Job Conditions:
This job may be performed in the office or on the jobsite and requires frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending and reaching. Due to the computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. He/she must be able to travel domestically and internationally, navigate the jobsite and must comply with all the company safety requirements in the office and on the jobsite.
