Redfin’s looking for a Head of Brand to lead Redfin’s transformation from a full-service real estate brokerage to real estate’s one-stop shop for every service people need to move on to a better life. It takes folks years to decide whether or not to move, so it’s critical to leave a strong brand impression over a long consideration cycle for one of life’s biggest and most emotional transactions. This is a high visibility role with significant influence over our CEO and executive team to position Redfin as the most disruptive, customer-first company in real estate.
The opportunity is huge: real estate and lending in the US is a $100B industry that Redfin is redefining in consumers’ favor. You’ll have a $50M+ marketing budget to define and tell Redfin’s story to millions of Americans through TV, radio, outdoor, digital channels, our site with 35M+ monthly visitors and the 3,000+ Redfin team of real estate agents, support staff, mortgage lender and title specialists. Folks already know and trust Redfin’s brand to show them all the homes for sale, faster than any other site, tour on-demand and work with local agents who sell their homes for more money and charge lower fees.
But most don’t know that we’re building every service you need to move and making the whole process feel magical, using technology to power unique experiences like mortgage preapprovals, instant cash offers for your current home and online tools to make offers without agents. Your north star is to make Redfin the first company Americans think of when they need to buy and sell.
The Role
Define Redfin’s brand strategy: your vision will be grounded in what customers want, our position amongst our competition and learning from other leaders across the company, including your own team. Our mission is to redefine real estate in consumer’s favor; you’ll develop our identity and positioning including defining our value propositions for how we deliver on our mission across every service we offer. You’ll lead the team in developing the brand guidelines to bring our identity to life across our marketing, site, apps and agents.
Lead the creative development marketing teams: you’ll manage an in-house creative team of 20+ talented content strategists, writers, designers and producers excited to try new ways to bring our messages to more people. We develop all of our creative in-house spanning from video, digital channels, TV, outdoor, radio, print and sales materials for our agents. You’ll inspire the teams to do their best work and set up processes to make sure it’s easy to be creative.
Scale your impact: you’ll lead your team in creating brand guidelines to ensure that every team at Redfin keeps our brand consistent and compelling. You’ll meet with leaders from across the company to better understand how your strategy can come alive through their work; you’ll need to travel a few times a year to meet folks in other markets to get a sense of Redfin’s culture beyond our Seattle HQ and communicate your strategy.
Develop creative grounded in reality: you’ll need to deeply understand Redfin’s overall strategy for how we win so you can lead your team in developing a strong brand that comes to life through every part of the business. You’re able to translate business needs to creative teams so they can deliver their best work to support our goals.
Culture builder and leader: our brand sets the foundation for how our customers experience Redfin and makes employees feel proud to work here. You’ll build a strong culture of creativity, experimentation and healthy risk-taking on your team while inspiring the whole company with you and your team’s work.
Desired Skills and Experiences
- A proven track record: 15+ years building brands at consumer-focused companies with a strong framework and process for defining the strategy and executing it.
- Experience building brands at companies with an online and offline presence with a large salesforce is a big plus.
- An eye for talent: You have a track record for hiring and managing strong teams of senior design and content leaders creating multi-channel marketing campaigns, site and app content and training materials.
- Deep experience getting executives bought into your brand strategy and executing across teams to bring it to life.
- Storyteller: Your vision will inspire the whole company to build and deliver a world-class real estate experience for our customers.
- You’re a compelling public speaker and strong writer with an eye for great design.
- You move fast but carefully, making sure stakeholders are bought into your vision and balance creating space for your teams to develop great content with a need for speed to hit tight deadlines and get a lot done.
