Position Summary:

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Development is primarily responsible for the planning, organization and implementation of operations designed to secure major gifts ($100,000+) from corporate, public, private and federal sources on behalf of the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. The AVP will design, implement and manage a comprehensive, proactive development plan focused on expanding donor relationships and coordinating the activity needed to secure financial support. This position will also monitor business and philanthropic trends to identify corporate, foundation, and government prospects that will lead to commitments supporting the mission and strategic plan of the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. The AVP will craft and manage the comprehensive fundraising plan and external funding compliance for our organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage all organizational fundraising campaigns.
  • Lead and supervise all frontline fundraising staff.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of donors at the $50,000+ level and oversee the organizational portfolio of grants totaling between $2MM-$5MM annually.
  • Oversee all development operations and supervise related staff.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of all public and private grant proposals, including meetings, project timelines, data acquisition, writing/editing, budget formulation, and supplemental materials, to include but not limited to renewal applications.
  • Supervise contracted grant writer(s), grant data managers and any additional grant management staff and any part-time staff assigned to assist with grant management activities.
  • Supervise staff that monitors grants once received and ensures compliance with donor intent, as well as programmatic, evaluation, budgetary, and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a complete stewardship plan for all funders including reporting to donor organizations as per their requirement.
  • Review all proposed grants using grant matrix and determine if organizational fit is present.
  • Provide frontline fundraising support for Tiger Academy, included but not limited to managing a portfolio of prospects, reporting, attending leadership meetings and soliciting major and annual gifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Seven or more years of development experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Strong communication, networking and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent team builder and team player; ability to work self-directed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building social and business functions for effective partnerships and collaborations.
  • Ability to manage teams of staff.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner building strong relations with leaders in a wide variety of organizations in the community.
  • Advanced computer skills, including the ability to word process, use donor data base, and relationship and/or grant management software.
