The Associate Vice President is responsible for the strategic planning, program management, and the implementation of best practices for all aspects of campus facilities and grounds operations, maintenance, and construction. Specifically responsible for providing day-to-day operations and maintenance of the campus facilities and grounds, including development of a Service Center model to respond to the daily requests for O/M services; providing leadership and direction to department managerial staff, development and oversight of budgets, identification and resolution of infrastructure deficiencies, and development of project management policies; participating in the planning, and coordinating the implementation and updating of the campus facilities master plan; responsibility for all aspects of capital plant reinvestment including supervising capital renewal projects, major renovation, and construction projects; and working with the campus sustainability leadership team on all facilities related aspects of campus sustainability and management of the campus carbon action plan.

  • In consultation with senior college leadership and the Board of Trustees Facilities & Master Plan Committee, oversee the planning, programming, design, construction and delivery of major development projects on campus, including establishing and managing project budgets and schedules as well as overseeing project management staff in vendor selection, permitting, pre-construction and construction, occupancy and closeout.
  • Work with other members of the Facilities Department and in collaboration with stakeholders throughout campus, to evaluate and prioritize deferred maintenance and capital renewal needs to develop a multi-year capital spending plan and implement annual capital projects, including setting budgets and schedules, selecting design and construction teams and managing construction and phasing to minimize disruption to campus activities.
  • Oversee internal campus planning, including space utilization and optimization for existing academic, student housing, administrative and related facilities in support of college-wide needs and in accordance with regulatory requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Oversee a management team of 15 staff and a union workforce of approximately 80 staff in managing daily operations and events management for 1.9 million square feet of campus facilities and 350 acres of campus grounds.
  • Negotiate leases and lease renewals on behalf of the college and manage tenant relationship for Babson-owned leased space; manage property acquisition process.
  • Responsible for managing the Facilities Service Center for work order requests with a focus on excellent customer service and efficiency.
  • Actively work with senior leaders across campus to communicate timely and accurate information about capital projects and other facilities management operations. Work to ensure best selection and negotiation of service level agreements with vendors, contractors, architects, and business partners.
  • Define and execute key performance indicators to assess departmental performance and compliance benchmarked against best practices data.
  • Routinely assesse work flow processes and make modifications as necessary ensuring optimal processing.
  • Coordinate the campus sustainability efforts through the Sustainability Office and the corresponding working groups.
  • Empower and encourage direct reports toward creativity, innovation, and high levels of team functioning.
  • Supervise programs related to facilities operations including the work order processing system, GIS system, Autocad and building plans, Revit systems, key and lock systems, personnel management systems, and others.
  • Manage campus wide environmental health and safety needs and programs.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key campus departments including the school deans, residence life and student affairs, public safety, risk management, and business and finance.
  • Support a tri-college collaborative by serving as a resource on facilities planning and management matters.
  • Create, foster, and ensure a community of high levels of response and satisfaction in facilities management.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Education Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline.

Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of successful experience in facilities management or large-scale property management
  • Ability to successfully direct the college’s new construction and major renovation projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge of facilities planning and management

  • Prior successful capital strategy development and master planning with the ability to identify linkages with current operations
  • Previous energy management experience monitoring usage, proposing and implementing initiatives and programs addressing consumption levels

Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering is preferred
  • Prior experience managing facilities operations within a college or university setting is preferred
