Job Description and Responsibilities
The VP of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain is responsible to manage $500M in purchases, 20 direct employees and over 400 suppliers while overseeing purchasing organization consisting of purchasing, logistics, and supplier development & quality, and the corporate materials organization. The purchasing organization is responsible to deliver globally cost competitive production and MRO commodities while maintaining a diversified supply base with superior quality and delivery ratings with minimal risk. This position also leads the Corporate Materials group with the responsibility to establish the vision, policies and procedures for the materials function across the organization and to ensure compliance to all customer, legal, and internal Summit standards and requirements while also supporting continuous improvement
- Drive operational excellence in the Purchasing and Materials functions in an automotive environment.
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies to be globally cost optimized for production and MRO commodities while maintaining quality and delivery rating and minimizing risk.
- Ensure that Summit supply chain logistics are globally competitive and meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Drive cost improvement though the supply chain in support of the company’s financial objectives.
- Develop, audit, and support suppliers through sourcing, product development, and production to ensure all Summit product and production requirements are met
- Ensure supplier contracts & PO terms comply with Summit standards and line up with the customer contracts & POs.
- Support flawless launches though ensuring critical suppliers are prepared and ensuring the hand off of material purchasing to the plants is well coordinated and seamless.
- Engage the supply base to ensure Summit has access to the latest innovative product and process technologies.
- Work with engineering, manufacturing, and engineering on make v. buy decisions.
- Provide the global vision and leadership for the materials management function and ensure compliance to all customer, legal, and internal Summit standards and requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement in the materials management function using lean manufacturing principles and automation.
- Coordinate corporate and plant materials and purchasing to ensure raw material inventories stay within the targeted ranges and obsolescence is minimized at program balance out.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Management, or related.
- Master’s degree & / or professional certification in Supply Chain preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience in an operations management position with an automotive supplier.
- Minimum 5+ years’ automotive experience within a similar Director/VP role with global responsibility.

- Solid working knowledge of lean manufacturing and materials management processes
- Solid working knowledge of planning and purchasing systems and experience with system selection and implementation.
- Strong background in supply chain planning systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and strategic skill with the ability to see the big picture and the details.
- Excellent data driven business judgment with strong financial acumen and very strong negotiation skill.
- Excellent communication skill both written and verbal.
- Excellent ability to proactively recognize problems and resolve them at all levels of the organization with a positive attitude
