Solutions Product Marketing
The Solutions Product Marketing team’s mission is to develop and market integrated solutions across the VMware portfolio. VMware’s Solutions Product Marketing team is responsible for developing integrated marketing content, plans and programs to drive the adoption of VMware’s solutions across targeted IT executive and practitioner audiences.
Position Description
The VP Solutions Product Marketing – Cloud (business title: VP of Cloud Marketing) will lead a team responsible for the marketing strategies covering our growing portfolio of cloud services. While every cloud service is supported by Product Marketing within a Business Unit, the VP of Solutions Product Marketing – Cloud weaves the point product and services into a collective whole that accelerates our progress in the IaaS, Cloud Operations and Hybrid Cloud marketplaces. We view solutions product marketing managers as business owners who have a clear understanding of their markets and buyers, know the key drivers of their business, and take responsibility for the overall success of cross BU solutions in the marketplace. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced marketing leader with expertise in solution- and corporate-level positioning & messaging as well as a wide range of executive and content marketing programs. This role requires deep product domain knowledge across VMware’s cloud services and cloud software portfolios, and close collaboration with our product development organization and BU product marketing counterparts.
In addition to traditional solutions marketing responsibilities, the VP of Cloud Marketing also serves as the thought leader driving a broader SaaS transformation within marketing itself. VMware marketing is in the midst of a major transformation from a traditional enterprise software marketing organization focused on high touch, executive type marketing engagement programs to a nimble, data-driven SaaS like marketing engine. This leader will influence the overall transformation agenda within marketing to ensure we are functionally ready for a Cloud operating model at scale.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead a team of solution marketers to develop succinct and compelling positioning, messaging and value propositions in support of VMware cloud services and cloud software solutions.
- Partner closely with senior leadership, marketing and sales leadership to understand conceptual ideas, product innovations, competitive positioning, and translate such into compelling marketing content and assets (presentations, data sheets, white papers, case studies, videos, demos, etc.).
- Develop positioning and messaging that resonate with customers, communicating product features/capabilities in terms and categories that customers understand.
- Know the customer. Have close relationships with important customers and be able to evangelize how our products have been successful in different customer scenarios.
- Work with sales to understand the sales cycle such as buyer personas, sales motions and adoption barriers. Work with a cross functional team to streamline the sales cycle.
- Create sales enablement materials that help sales reps and partners effectively position and sell our products against the competition.
- Ensure messaging and content adoption across multiple marketing & GTM channels and programs (events, VBC, field, partners, digital, alliances, sales, channel partners, web, social media etc.).
Required skills:
- 15+ years of experience in product and solutions marketing
- >5 years experience with cloud software/services and/or SaaS, IaaS offerings
- Strategic and analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to simplify complex concepts and articulate uniquely differentiated value propositions to both technical and business audiences.
- Strong analytical, leadership, and partnering skills. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of marketing, business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality in an emerging or established market.
- Experience of the full product lifecycle management from business planning to launch to program management and measurement.
- Be a good storyteller. Have the ability to communicate that story verbally and in writing. Be able to translate geeky-widget-speak into business benefits that resonate with customers and reporters.
- Demonstrated ability to influence up, down and across functionally to peers and the ability to collaborate among multiple groups.
- Strong understanding of VMware’s current Multi-Cloud, Hybrid Cloud, Cloud Operations, SDDC, EUC and cloud services portfolio is a requirement.
- An MBA is highly preferred.
