Introduction

PURPOSE: Manage the planning, estimating, permitting, scheduling, risk analysis, material procurement, agreements for land, engineering services, pipeline interconnects and reimbursements, prepare projects for bid process and assist with contractor selection, monitor field construction, and in-service facilitation and project close-out, progress and financial monitoring and additional project management of extraordinary gas transmission and distribution facilities and high profile projects requiring specialized project management support and oversight. Manages projects in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Collaborate and strategize with peers within NiSource companies and in industry to ensure cost effective project management. Supports Engineering, New Business, and Sales & Services in cost estimating potential projects. Supports Local Operations through communications and commitment by applying input into projects.

  • Safe/efficient high-quality construction work that complies with policies, practices, and standards
  • Collaboration between project managers, project specialists, and contract construction inspectors
  • Provides construction support for all internal/external customers
  • Completes construction projects which meet customer expectations and budget requirements
  • Promotes relationships with external municipalities and local authorities
  • Timely and accurate invoice payments
  • Effective team relationships throughout field and State staff functions
  • Project success is based on the ability to complete all projects in a safe, reliable manner, within 5% of the cost estimate, on time and with no significant regulatory notices, violations, or citations
  • Monitor and communicate progress of projects related to capital spends and projected spends, project status updates, inspector schedules, and land services requirements

Qualifications


Required for Selection:

  • BS Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent degree from an accredited institution with demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of Project Manager Advancement Criteria
  • 3+ year’s experience working with pipeline contractors
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of project management with experience leading projects
  • Demonstrated skill in utilizing cost/benefit analysis with quantitative and/or qualitative data to recommend best option/choice/alternative
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with process improvement methodologies e.g. TQM, Continuous Improvement, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various individuals and functions across the organization
  • Demonstrated strong negotiating and influencing skills

Preferred for Selection

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Required for Selection:

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of gas system design and operations including gas flow, construction, contracts and emergency response.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal operating codes
  • Strong knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to the design, construction, maintenance and repair of gas facilities, inclusive of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of capital budgets and working knowledge of O & M budgets
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Proficiency with personal computers

Preferred for Selection:

  • Working knowledge of operations support systems, i.e. WMS, etc.
  • Project Specialist/Construction Inspection/Welding experience

Travel Percentage

  • 30 – 40 %
