About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE’s) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
Position overview
New Development Project Management (NDPM) is within T&D. NDPM is at the forefront of SCE’s interactions with the California building industry. The team partners with residential and commercial builders/consultants to bring large-scale projects onto the grid. From master planned communities, and massive industrial complexes, to small in-fill projects and everything in between, NDPM’s work is vital to maintaining one of California’s most important economic engines. NDPM’s efforts contribute to SCE’s continued growth, and directly impact customer satisfaction.
The Project Manager will be responsible for managing residential and commercial projects from inception to close, throughout the SCE territory. The position regularly manages both Applicant and SCE Install projects, as well as both Applicant and SCE Design. In addition to a wide variety of project types, NDPM Project Managers also interface with all Planning groups, and regularly schedule work with both Regions and Districts.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing residential tracts and applicant design commercial projects for new business customers through the IPSEC model (Initiate, Plan, Schedule, Execute, Close).
- Manage and oversee all tasks performed by the Project Analyst including:
- Preparing and gathering all required documentation for new submittals to the New Development Design Hubs.
- Preparing and submitting all required work order documentation for scheduling to Regional Hubs and Districts for construction.
- Maintain continuous communication with customer; facilitator of all required information as necessary between customers/consultants, Business Customer Division Account Manager, and all T&D Stakeholders including Engineering, Design Hubs/Planning, Permitting, Regional Scheduling Hubs, Underground Civil, District Operations, Streetlight Program Management, Metering Services, Field Accounting Organization, and Distribution Construction Contract Management.
- Provide monthly reports to Customers (or as needed) and facilitate conference calls/in-person meetings to provide project status and address customer questions.
- Receive Preliminary/Final Designs from Design Hubs, facilitate customer approval and communication with Design Hub.
- Ensure permits and easements are secured and all work order requirements are met when scheduling projects for construction with Districts or Regional Hubs.
- Manage and schedule projects with SCE Electrical Construction and SCE Civil Construction as required (i.e. customer tie-in, etc.).
- Provide project updates within database and report out to Manager and NDPM team
- Provide project status updates at various T&D forums, including Regional Grid Team meetings, Resource Planning and Performance Management (RPPM) meetings, Underground Civil meetings, and District meetings.
- Build relationships with District and Regional scheduling contacts, Production Specialists, and Pre-Construction Inspectors (PCI’s) to ensure timely and successful project completion.
- Test/validate the project management processes, cost assumptions, best practices, participate in process improvement working sessions, and assist in developing implementation plans.

- Seven years of project management experience.

- Experience managing and implementing small to medium projects including identifying, maintaining and/or adjusting the cost, scope, and resources; managing vendors, overseeing the formal planning, tracking, and reporting of project performance.
- Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Experience interfacing effectively and collaborating with clients, peers, project personnel, and all levels of management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
- Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with changing processes and standards.
- Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
- Experience mentoring co-workers, providing small team leadership, delivering on-going training as needed for peers and support personnel.
- Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

- Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
- Position will require up to 50% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
- Relocation does not apply to this position.
