Engineering Project Manager

VIAVI Solutions is hiring an R&D Project Manager to the team to sit in either Rochester, NY or Santa Rosa, CA.

These programs involve working closely with R&D, Manufacturing and Commercial teams to meet schedule, cost, performance and reliability commitments. External customers will include commercial markets as well as Mil/Aero and other government markets and may include project scope such as coating design, substrate preparation and handling, PVD or wet-chemical coating processes, post-coating metrology, polymer replication, optical assembly and other processes.

Responsibilities include:

• Manage internal- and/or customer-funded projects including
• Prototype or low-volume production,
• Product or process development.
• Transfer of products or process to manufacturing (NPI)
• Utilize best-practice project management tools to drive project performance and reporting (Design Reviews, Project Reviews, integrated program plans and schedules, etc…).
• Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals including technical definition, schedule estimation and resource planning.
• Play lead role in customer communications and the resolution of engineering and project management issues.
• Proactively manage program risk through risk identification and mitigation processes.
• Set and track goals for project team.
• Support commercial team in business development activities including customer meetings, quote development, etc.
• Some travel required

Requirements:

• B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Physical Science or Engineering.
• Program/Project management experience in development of new products and processes, including use of NPI Stage-gate or similar systems (Minimum 5+ years)
• Experience managing a team of technical professionals.
• Analytical thinker; detail oriented; problem solver
• Program/Project management experience with quality systems (AS 9100) (Minimum 5+ years)
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interaction skills
• Proficient with computers: strong proficiency with MS Excel and Office and Microsoft Project.
• Optical thin film coating design, polymer manufacturing and characterization experience desired.
• Eligibility to obtain U.S. DoD Security Clearance [current, active U.S. DoD Security Clearance preferred]
