GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (Apostolorum Successores 177).
Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
NOTE: This is an appointed position by the Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle and subject to Archdiocesan Policy pertaining to appointed positions. The supervisor of this position reserves the right to make necessary modifications to this position to reflect current and appropriate responsibilities.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:
The Director of Stewardship Formation is responsible for assisting parishes in fostering Christian stewardship as a way of life. This will be accomplished through training, consulting, formation events and retreats, and on-line and printed resources. The Director of Parish Stewardship will assist parishes and schools in their efforts to provide a year-round emphasis on daily living as grateful stewards of Christ. The Director also serves to promote Catholic stewardship among all other archdiocesan departments, as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
- Plans, designs and implements a strategy of on-going stewardship formation for priests, seminarians, deacons, lay ministers, parish leaders, school principals, teachers, catechists, students, and Catholic disciples.
- Provides support, encouragement, coaching, tools, and advice to pastors, parish staff and lay leadership, school principals and other archdiocesan ministry partners regarding the spirituality and practice of stewardship.
- Promotes the spirituality and practice of stewardship as a way of life for all Christians who, as disciples of Jesus are called to be missionaries, evangelists and stewards.
- Assists pastors and parish staff with identifying and developing emerging leaders within the parish.
- Designs and delivers regional and/or parish Stewardship Workshops throughout the archdiocese on an on-going basis. These workshops, for priests, deacons, parish staff, and lay parish leadership, will focus on the biblical and theological basis for a spirituality of stewardship. The workshops will also include an overview of best practices in parish stewardship and a set of action steps to take in each parish after the workshop.
- Builds and maintains relationships in parishes and schools to provide motivation, advice, and support for the implementation of stewardship practices in parishes and schools. These activities could include formation workshops on the spirituality of stewardship; intentional inclusion of themes of gratitude and stewardship into homilies, faith formation classes, school curricula, bulletins, and on-line communications; establishment of a Stewardship Commission, etc.
- Builds and maintains strong collaborative relationships with the multicultural and inclusive communities in the archdiocese.
- Works collaboratively with other Chancery ministries involved in evangelization, discipleship formation, religious education, Catholic schools, pastoral ministry, etc.
- Holds weekend retreats on Stewardship at the Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center, parishes or other locations.
- Convenes periodic Archdiocesan Stewardship Summits to celebrate successful activities in parishes and share lessons learned.

- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write in a clear, concise, persuasive, and grammatically correct manner.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including speaking clearly and persuasively to individuals and groups; listening effectively; and responding well to questions.
- Ability to respond well to shifting priorities and changing work situations; ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations; ability to develop new skills to remain effective; ability to adapt to changes; ability to find merit in differing positions and adapt strategies in response to new information or changes to a situation.
- Ability to work independently and to establish, monitor, and achieve goals with minimal supervision.
- An active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Catholic Church.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (master’s degree preferred); at least five years demonstrated experience in evangelization or related pastoral ministry can substitute.
- A major or strong course of study in theology, religious studies or a related field is highly desired.
Experience:
- Experience in planning and implementing pastoral or other related initiatives.
- Three to five years of experience in evangelization, parish or other direct ministry, or regional or diocesan ministry coordination.
- Experience working and collaborating effectively with a diverse range of individuals and communities.
- Successful experience in motivating and persuading others to join in a common effort, initiative or cause.
- Experience in speaking clearly and persuasively to groups of all sizes and in a wide variety of settings.
- Experience using a wide variety of computer applications, including the Microsoft Office suite of applications (WORD, EXCEL, Outlook, etc.) and database applications.

- A personal commitment to the theology and practice of stewardship.
- Self-directed and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Demonstrates a high level of empathy and ability to listen.
- Ability to work on evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel within the Archdiocese of Seattle and must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Bi-lingual English and Spanish fluency highly desirable.
