Business and Operations Manager
We are looking for a strategic and driven individual to join the Peabody Team as Directors of Administration. Founded in 1994, Peabody School is a PreKindergarten – 8th grade independent school serving gifted and academically advanced students, located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Business and Operations Manager will work closely with the Head of School to support Peabody Teaching Staff and Community by managing Human Resource Management, Facility & Property Management and Finance Resource Management.

Leadership & Strategy
- Plan and manage change in accordance with the school development/strategic plan.
- Assist the head of school in special projects and strategic initiatives to problem solve issues that burden teaching staff.

Administrative Management
- Manage the whole school administrative function and lead all support staff, including managing custodial services, contractors, etc.
- Design and maintain an administrative process to form complete systems and ensure continuous improvement
- Define responsibilities, information, and support for staff and other stakeholders.
- Use data analysis, evaluation and reporting systems to maximum effect by ensuring systems are streamlined to maximize efficiency and avoid duplication

Human Resource Management
- Manage the payroll services for all school staff including the management of benefits.
- Assist teaching staff to clearly understand the school’s payroll and benefits policies and procedures
- Assist Head of School with monitoring the way policies and procedures are actioned and provide support where necessary
- Seek and make use of specialist expertise in relation to HR issues
- Ensure all staff issues are addressed properly, efficiently and judiciously, and keep track of progress until resolved
Facility & Property Management
- Ensure the supervision of relevant planning and construction processes is undertaken in line with contractual obligations
- Ensure the safe maintenance and security operation of all school premises
- Manage the maintenance of the school site including the purchase and repair of all furniture and fittings
- Ensure the continuing availability of utilities, site services, and equipment
- Monitor, assess and review contractual obligations for outsourced school services
- Ensure ancillary services e.g. catering, cleaning, etc., are monitored and managed effectively
- Manage the letting of school premises to external organizations, for the development of the extended services and local community requirements.
- Seek professional advice on insurance and advise the SMT on appropriate insurances for the school and implement and manage such schemes accordingly.

Finance Resource Management
- Work with the Peabody Board to prepare and manage a budget, monitor activity on the proposed budget.
- Manage work for outsourced bookkeeping and account services.
- Monitor Payroll, Account Receivable, Account Payable activities. Identify and inform the Head of School of the causes of significant variance and take prompt corrective action.
Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field
- 5+ years’ executive-level experience preferably with a non-profit
- Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills
- Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management
- Ability to work strategically and collaboratively and in teams
- Effective, versatile and action-oriented
- Excellent communication skills
