Position Summary:

The Vice President VP, Strategy & Corporate Development is one of the senior positions within Airbus Americas and reflects the firm’s commitment to the development and execution of profitable growth strategies. As such, the VP, Strategy & Corporate Development plays a critical role as a strategist, thought leader, and catalyst for action when it comes to developing Regional strategy, originating and evaluating specific Mergers & Acquisition M&A targets and completing strategic projects. The successful execution of such tasks is significantly enhanced through the collection, evaluation, and appropriate dissemination of business intelligence. Lastly, the role provides support and coordination for strategic functions within Airbus Americas, Airbus US Space & Defense, Inc., Airbus Helicopters, Inc., and other Airbus entities in the Americas region.


Primary Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities for the VP, Strategy & Corporate Development include five primary areas


Strategy 30%

  • Partner closely with the Chairman & CEO in the formulation of corporate strategy, while planning for, and actioning, an organic growth and M&A plan. Such strategy formulation and overall growth plan must ensure alignment between the reality of the “current state” and Airbus Americas’ desired “future state.”
  • Such alignment can only be realized through dynamic support and coordination with the individual strategic functions within Airbus Americas, Airbus US Space & Defense, Inc., Airbus Helicopters, Inc., and other Airbus entities in the Americas region.
  • Partner closely with the Airbus Global Strategy organization in the integration and formulation of corporate strategy.


Mergers and Acquisitions 30%

  • Enhance Airbus Americas’ ability to originate, pursue, and close attractive acquisition opportunities at an appropriate price by providing key insights, strategic thinking and leadership based on prior deal experience.
  • The success of an acquisition will be determined by proper fit with Airbus’ Strategy and Corporate Development vision, not just how well the deal was executed.


Business Intelligence 30%

  • Lead the gathering, evaluation and appropriate dissemination of open-source and confidential material pertaining to aeronautics, lawmakers and country-specific actions and intentions in support of Airbus Americas’ initiatives within the Region.


Source and Build Relationships 10%

  • Enhance Airbus Americas’ ability to source within the Americas the best possible growth opportunities, via M&A prospects and strategic projects, by building deep and meaningful relationships with key market players, leaders, and targets of all sizes along with a network of industry intermediaries i.e., aerospace executives, research thought leaders, bankers, lawyers, etc..


Key Deliverables

  • Lead the corporate strategy discipline at Airbus Americas; establish and improve said function to achieve world-class strategy and drive an extremely impactful corporate development operation.
  • Lead origination efforts on a regional basis and develop and execute specific plans for acquisitions of target companies with demonstrated potential to add value to the business; determine the best approach for each specific deal while also pursuing new targets through relationship-building and focused research.
  • Provide and discuss regular updates and specific recommendations on new business initiatives with Airbus Americas Chairman & CEO, Leadership Team, and Board of Directors.
  • Cultivate and manage an effective network of contacts and resources among industry, investment banking and advisory firm leaders, with the specific goal of increasing Airbus’ ability to identify and close opportunities at an early stage.
  • Lead the activities of those directly and indirectly involved in M&A efforts regionally, including key functional leaders and staff, such as finance, legal, HR, etc.
  • Support Airbus Americas due diligence and keep the Chairman & CEO, Leadership Team and Board of Directors apprised of all relevant strategic developments, as appropriate.
  • Evaluate and strengthen identified Airbus Americas leadership competencies within the Strategy and Corporate Development team.
  • Drive consistent messaging across corporate, marketing, and employee communications to enhance corporate brand.
  • Enhance strategy formulation and execution disciplines by supporting, enhancing, and training this discipline across the enterprise.
  • Champion Airbus Ethics and Compliance policies across all facets of Airbus Americas.


Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • Preferred: A Master’s Degree in business or related field.


Experience:

  • Required 7- 10 years of experience in the defense and/or aerospace industry sector, with experience in private and government sector strategy-related activities.

  • Demonstrate and solid understanding of the aerospace and defense marketplace.
  • Strategic understanding of the driving forces within aerospace and defense and the competitive forces within the industry.
  • Strategic understanding of the Airbus portfolio and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
