The Vice President, Strategic Development will be responsible for developing and cultivating USPI business interests and health system/physician group relationships. While this primary responsibility should not be a barrier to pursuit of partnerships or development opportunities anywhere in the U.S., it does infer that the VP Development will be accountable for maximizing opportunities in their assigned region. The focus of this position will be to analyze and assess market conditions, competitor penetration, and potential partner readiness and identify key decision makers in three key business development categories: health system partnership for large scale development strategies, opportunities for de novo development of surgical specialty facilities and acquisition of existing surgical specialty facilities.
Travel will be extensive and much of this individual’s work will be conducted in the field, with virtual connection to the resources of the corporate office. Creativity, innovation and self-reliance are keys to success in this position. In addition, one’s ability to effectively assess and prioritize strategic opportunities for USPI involvement, along with skillful management of the relationships involved, will add to the efficiency and reduce cycle-time in getting complex, enterprise-level agreements to implementation. Specific Responsibilities
The VP Development’s essential duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Develop and prepare short-term and long-range development plans and budgets based on corporate goals and objectives and recommends their adoption to members of the Executive group.
- Reviews annual business plans and articulates company capabilities and limitations and recommends marketing and development strategy plans for new ventures.
- Develops and guides due diligence and negotiates new opportunities as well as ensuring the accurate and timely valuation of partnership or acquisition targets.
- Manages physician relationships.Facilitate communications between the healthcare partners, physicians and Administrators.
- Interfaces effectively with all company departments to ensure a valid analysis of short and long-range plans from a marketing business development perspective with regular coordination with other Executives.
- Evaluates general and specific business conditions and keeps executive team informed on these matters, as well as participates with other Executives in developing corporate objectives and plans for their achievement, including rate of return and rate of increase in revenue and earnings.
- Directs and organizes responsibilities and activities to achieve budgeted profit results and other financial criteria to preserve the investments of the company.
- Organize and coordinate all marketing and development activities to ensure targets are achieved and interpret market data in order to obtain the best use of resources to achieve desired results.
- Ensures complete analysis of trending records, and estimates or market development and potential in addition to ensuring marketing and development advice and guidance are provided to all operating units as needed.
- Directs the design and implementation of market research and oversees market research studies to determine and define market and customer needs.
- Advises in the implementation of product or service modifications based on marketing research or communication with the appropriate network staff.
- Recommends policies and market share strategies based on pricing objectives, which may include quantities, terms and conditions of sale.

Required Skills
- The VP Development will possess a Bachelor’s and an MBA or relevant graduate degree is preferred.

The successful candidate will have been recognized for excellence in executing his/her national business development responsibilities and corporate management duties in a comparably large and complex organization. This individual must exhibit and cultivate an uncompromising customer service orientation that recognizes excellent time management capability, versatile oral and written communication skills and be comfortable working with and managing physician expectations. Experience working with non-profit health systems whose recognition and reputation for excellence and quality place them at or near the top of the healthcare delivery system world. In addition, experience in a high-growth, for-profit company is also an advantage, as is direct experience with companies providing ambulatory surgical services or hospital services.
