POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the NorthStar Energy’s senior leadership team and reporting directly to the President and CEO with dotted line reporting to Saltchuk’s SVP of Human Resources, the VP of HR is responsible for the development and execution of the human capital strategy that supports the organization’s business plan and long-term growth strategy. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership and counsel to the CEO and executive management team on all human capital issues and opportunities including playing a key role in acquisitions and divestures. The position provides the leadership as well as the hands-on day to day management for the Human Resources department and all of its functions, including compensation, recruitment, orientation, training, benefits management, succession planning, talent development, performance management, labor relations, employee recognition and morale. The VPHR role will be located in Seattle and will travel regularly to Alaska and Hawaii, the primary operational hubs, as well as other locations as needed.

HR MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures Company compliance with employment legislation and ensures HR policies and procedures are current and communicated broadly.
Oversees 401k program administration at NorthStar energy, coordinates annual audit, educational programs.
Negotiates and renews annual health and welfare benefits in coordination with brokers and sister companies and has oversight for open enrollment, ACA and ERISA compliance.
Updates compensation program; updates job descriptions; conducts annual salary surveys, assists with salary budgets; monitors performance evaluation program.
Develops staffing strategies including job advertisements, assessments, interviewing, checking references and pre-employment processes.
Ensures other regulatory reporting is completed including the Affirmative Action Plan, EEO1, Vets 100, Driver Qualification files, and board reports.
Coordinates FMLA, leave of absences and ADA accommodation requests.
Coordinates employee work comp claims including contacts with appropriate regulatory industries, employee leaves of absences and return to duty.
Oversees administration and compliance with the Training Plan, Learning Management System, Ethics and other related training.
Advises management in the appropriate resolution of employee relations issues. Assists in disciplinary matters or employee recognitions.
Serves as Labor Relations advisor, coordinating renewal of Collective Bargaining agreements and grievance response.
Coordinates and conducts management training. Prepares and consolidates management and metric reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
10+ years HR leadership experience in an environment that requires both strategic and hands-on skills set.
Broad and deep experience in all functional areas of HR, including labor and employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, leader development, regulatory and wage and hour compliance, employee communications and management coaching.
Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements, track record of resolving union and management issues, managing grievance meetings in conjunction with Labor counsel.
Strong skills in HR systems, HR process implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Outstanding business acumen, including planning, analysis, critical thinking and decision making.
Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with people at all levels, demonstrating integrity and credibility.
Experience in dynamic, growing organizations with demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and delivering results through people and systems.
Experience working in a union environment highly desired.
Preference for using data driven HR business analytics and insights to provide HR recommendations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong ability to communicate well with all levels and personalities as well as deliver presentations to large and small groups.
Highly collaborative and effective at building partnerships.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed, including travel to Alaska and Hawaii,
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; SPHR, MBA or related preferred.
