Production Manager
Advanced Visual Production (âAVPâ) is an event design and audio-visual company with over twenty years of experience providing sound, lighting, and video solutions for private, corporate, and institutional customers. We seek to expand the number of concurrent projects we can simultaneously manage through the hiring of an additional Production Manager.
The Production Manager position is the staff member who is principally responsible for the successful on-site execution of projects to which they have been assigned. This process begins during the initial sale, where a Production Manager may be asked to assist the Producer with project conceptualization and pricing. Upon contract, the Producer hands the project over to the Production Manager for execution. At that time, the Production Manager works with the production team to successfully realize the project, managing it through pre-, live-, and post-production tasks. The project is then returned to the Producer for the finalization and follow-up processes.
This is a full-time position, with an average of 30 hours per week of office time, and ten to twenty hours a week of on-site event management time. Extensive night and weekend hours are required, as is occasional overnight travel.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Producer to suggest, design, and finalize production packages according to customer requirements
- Create, in support of the sales process, equipment lists, labor requirements, renderings, and other supporting documentation.
- Manage the preproduction process, including staffing (with the assistance of Producer or Crew Manager), subrentals, subcontracts, and transportation. Review with the Warehouse Manager the final equipment list, schedule any pre-production tasks (such as prebuilds, fixture addressing, etc), and approve the final equipment package once prepped.
- Manage the on-site execution of the job, including load in, show, and load out.
- Contribute to day-to-day tasks such as warehouse organization, staff development and training, facility and vehicle management, etc.
- Work alongside other Production Managers in support of their projects, contributing design and system expertise during preproduction and on-site.
The Production Manager must emphasize the following traits in their work:
- Timely, active communication with staff members and customers
- A methodical workflow to track and manage multiple simultaneous projects
- A positive, team-oriented attitude, especially during challenging on-site situations
- An ongoing dedication to the improvement of the company, exemplified through continued expansion of their own skillset
Qualifications:
Within AVP, Production Managers must be able to work with, understand, and manage all areas of audio-visual production, with expertise in at least one. Production areas include Sound, Lighting, and Video, with managers generally assigned based on the applicability of their expertise to the needs of the event.
Required Qualifications:
- Five years of experience in event audio-visual production, with at least some management experience for live events, such as project, warehouse, or stage management; equivalent coursework will be conContinuesidered
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to create plots, floorplans, diagrams, or renderings in a visual communications tool such as Sketchup, Vectorworks, AutoCad, or similar
- General knowledge of all areas of audio-visual production
- Expert, demonstrable knowledge in at least one area of production
- Strong computer skills, to include productivity applications, online tools (such as Drive or Dropbox), and area-specific knowledge of connectivity and networking
Preferred qualifications:
- For Lighting specialists: Ability to design lighting packages for events, create light plots, previsualize lighting designs, program and execute lighting on-site with a high level of creativity. Understanding of lighting requirements for corporate events, gala fundraisers, and concerts. Able to calculate rigging loads and electrical loads for each design or event. Must be familiar with IP-based control distribution in ARTNET and sACN.
- For Audio specialists: Ability to design audio deployments for events using prediction software, create system diagrams, configure and align systems on-site, and mix a variety of styles ranging from concerts to corporate spoken word. Able to calculate rigging and electrical loads for each deployment or event. Must have an understanding of Dante audio networking, and ideally experience in system measurement and alignment using Smaart.
- For Video specialists: Ability to conceptualize and execute video deployments for events, including projection systems, LED walls, and switching and media playback systems. Able to aggregate content, perform format conversions, and understand different video signal compatibilities and interfaces. Some knowledge of projection mapping, multi-projector blending, and other creative applications is preferred.
Compensation
To be negotiated based on experience. AVP offers competitive PTO (40 hours vacation, 40 hours personal, 96 hours holiday) and 60% payment of company health and dental policy.

Please submit resume, cover letter, and two references.
