Job Purpose

From the Tucson Development Center (TDC), the project manager works directly with customers, both internal and external to the company, to coordinate on the efficient provision of development and support efforts required by our business units. The project manager utilizes industry best practices and keen independent judgment to most efficiently lead teams in developing & delivering industry-leading customer solutions. The project manager creates and maintains project plans, financial accounting documentation and management review materials and is personally responsible for the efficient execution of deliverables through the coordination and monitoring of designated engineering staff. This position will be working independently, within a Project Management Office team, and in directing project teams and will coordinate activities with a business unit’s development and support team. As with all members of the Opus team, they are expected to deliver excellent service and strive to achieve the satisfaction of all internal and external customers.

Duties & Responsibilities
· Effectively lead multiple concurrent development and support projects that require customer interface, requirements gathering, functional specification writing, resource estimates, schedule development, budget development, development team meetings, progress monitoring, progress reporting, product release, and program implementation.

· Apply product development process discipline including WBS, schedule, SOWs, risk management plans, requirements traceability and scope management.

· Document, distribute, maintain and obtain approvals for Requirements Functional Specification (RFS), including preliminary system architecture and conceptual design.

· Develop Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP), coordinate approval efforts, and then assist in execution of the ATP.

· Manage change requests for legacy systems now operating.

· Manage customer input for projects as assigned, including all customer feedback, tracking and resolution.

· Serve as a resource director by working in close cooperation with the project management team and the engineering department head to manage the department’s shared human resources to best achieve company interests.

· Serve as primary interface to program operations management regarding engineering resource requests.

· Manage all project related activities and decisions to achieve on-schedule, on-budget, and on-quality project delivery

· Requirements

· Proven ability to successfully manage product and software development and support projects to conclusion, meeting or exceeding expectations in terms of quality, timing, and cost.

· Knowledge and experience with computerized tools for creating and maintaining project management documentation (specifically, Microsoft Project and Team Foundation Server).

· Knowledge and experience with systems engineering practices, requirements development and management.

· Skilled in working with diverse organizations, understanding customer requests, communicating with internal/external customers and organizing requirements definition

· Skilled in best practices and coordination of project management activities and tools.

· Has ability to create templates, project documentation, and concise report updates as directed.

· Highly skilled in the use of scheduling tools and techniques for tracking budgets, resource assignments, timelines, and quality.

· Proven ability to understand assignment, create execution plan, obtain and analyze data as needed, and effectively manage effort to deliver solution that meets or exceeds customer expectations.

· Ability to balance multiple priorities and problem-solve.

· Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to ensure successful interaction with executive and senior management, internal and external customers, and other stakeholders.

· Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

· Knowledge of marketing or business development a plus.

· Qualifications

· Requires a Bachelor of Science degree or higher in an engineering discipline and/or ten years direct industry experience in hardware/software systems engineering and project management.

· Demonstrated history of successful technical planning & platform development experience relating to customer-oriented solutions.

· Program Management Professional (PMP) or other certification a plus.
