We realize that the success of our school depends on the success of our team and value the partnership of students, staff, and families.Lower School Band Director/Drumline InstructorThe ideal candidate possesses a belief that all students are capable of learning an instrument, even with having no prior musical training or experience.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develop students technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and implement engaging repertoire for students to perform at school-wide and district events * Design and implement a year-long curriculum for band and drumline courses with the goal of achieving noticeable technical and expressive musical growth from August to June. Students should be able to confidently rehearse, perform, and engage their repertoire as confident advocates for music as an art form* Communicate and maintain high behavioral expectations for all students, and develop a culture of growth mindset; encourage and celebrate small improvements in individual and classroom culture* Actively collaborate and communicate with administrators and other teachers to cultivate a school-wide culture of high expectations and a positive mindset for students and staff* Prepare students for all performances and provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including three major concerts per band each year* Present performances of high musical quality for the school and community and ensure that school values are well-represented at all school-wide and district-wide events* Select or arrange music that is both culturally responsive and scaled for ability of students * Collaborate with Upper School music department in both school-wide and district-wide events * Plan sequenced instruction for the development of proper playing techniques and the decoding of standard music notation.* Ensure that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to school-wide instructional norms and practices * Supervise students in any after-school run programs * Advocate and advertise the band and drumline program to middle school students across the district* Report to and work under the supervision of the building principal* Participate in district-wide professional development opportunities * Work collaboratively with our growing instrumental feeder program at the Wetherbee Middle School * Organize the LHS pep bands performance at home athletic events for football and basketball (stipended position)* Organize and run Blueline, a drumline made up of our schools most advanced drumline students* Ensure that instruments and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current* Demonstrate knowledge and expertise with assessing and solving technical issues with woodwind/brass/percussion instruments; the ideal candidate will preferably demonstrate knowledge and experience with Yamaha and Pearl marching drums and be able to perform maintenance duties (as needed) such as changing/tuning drum heads* Collaborate with the District Music Facilitator for vision-setting as it relates to performance planning, curriculum design, and continuing to develop the growth and impact of the Lower School Music program* Demonstrate growth mindset as a professional music educator by being open to constructive feedback and always seeking to improve their methods, practices, and approachesThe Educator should possess the following skills and characteristics: * Passionate belief in Lawrence Public Schools and in working with immigrant youth and English Language Learners;* Commitment to the academic and personal success of Lawrence Public Schools students and families;* Proven history of successful collaboration; * Ability to take initiative and succeed in a fast-paced classroom/ school environment while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges* Demonstrated capacity to create and maintain a positive learning environment in which students diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected and utilized. * Desire to improve their practice by taking and implementing frequent feedback;* Humility and a good sense of humor;
