Advance your Career at Liberty Mutual Insurance – A Fortune 100 Company As a Business Lines Director of State Operations (“DSO”), you will be responsible for defining and achieving state profitability and growth plans by leveraging countrywide strategies and adapting them to state-specific environments. You will work in close partnership with teams across the GRM Product Home Office and Field organizations to drive key decision making and performance. Coverage will include states with moderate degrees of regulatory/competitive complexity. Responsibilities:

  • Own short term and long term state strategies to achieve business plan, including coordination of levers spanning pricing, product, distribution/sales/marketing, underwriting/risk selection, and claims.
  • Achieve state results, regularly monitoring competitive landscape, regulatory environment and business performance while pulling controllable levers and influencing partners to achieve business plan.
  • Own evaluation and decision making around rate adequacy and profitability in assigned states.
  • Own final rate level and pricing strategy/guidelines for field execution.
  • Adapt, champion and support countrywide underwriting and pricing programs at state level.
  • Incubate new ideas at local level that can become impactful countrywide initiatives.
  • Act as key liaison between Field and Home Office leadership and teams.
  • Own legislative and local bureau relationships and decisions on behalf of Liberty Mutual and champion key public affairs priorities in local legislative/regulatory settings.
  • Support efforts to ensure GRM conducts ethical and compliant business practices in local markets.
  • Manage dotted-line cross-functional partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to quickly grasp new concepts and adapt to changes and demands in fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Highly developed qualitative and quantitative analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence priorities with and without direct authority across Home Office and Field organizations.
  • Ability to direct teams in the analysis, development and presentation of pricing, marketing and underwriting strategies.
  • Ability to effectively manage cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to directly manage individual contributors including performance, development and salary preferred.
  • 8-10 years experience of relevant and progressively more challenging work. Sound knowledge of business processes, financial metrics and insurance concepts.
  • MBA or appropriate experience required with CPCU designation preferred.
