An exciting opportunity with the Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph County is open, and we are looking for our next Chief Operating Officer to make a positive impact on kidsâ lives. We are looking for candidates who will provide leadership to the strategic planning process and implements new strategic initiatives related to areas such as Operations, Program Services, Finance and Human Resources.

You will be responsible for bringing this mission to life in this community by providing a safe and fun space, an engaging club experience and managing the professionals who will guide them along the way.
The Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph County serves approximately 1,600 [LB1] children and teens and operates with an annual budget of approximately $1.5 million.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the organizationâs day-to-day operating activities. The COO provides leadership to the strategic planning process and implements new strategic initiatives related to areas such as Operations, Program Services, Finance and Human Resources. The COO is an integral part of the executive management team and is also responsible for regular interactions and updates with the Board of Directors on key initiatives.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Leadership
1. Lead the development and implementation of organizational infrastructure, in relation to need and available resources, to facilitate achievement of operational goals.
Strategic Planning
2. Evaluate overall program effectiveness on the basis of participation and achievement of stated goals; recommends modifications to improve program performance, as appropriate.
Board Development
3. Support Board Committees, as assigned.
Resource Management
4. Coordinate agency budget development; monitor and report variances in revenues and expenditures.
5. Manage administrative and operational processes, overseeing the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and other facilities.
6. Manage performance of assigned Directors and other staff in achieving goals, providing technical assistance in program design, development, community relations and program operations.
7. Plan and implement a staff development and training program.
Partnership Development
8. Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families and community organizations.
Marketing and Public Relations
9. Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for Club programs, services and activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May assist in the administration of restricted programs by overseeing program operations at each location; ensures the completion of required reports; and preparation of any required interagency reports.
2. May be responsible for managing human resources programs and systems including recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close contact with assigned Directors and other staff to provide technical assistance in matters of programming and operations; interacts regularly with Chief Executive Officer and as assigned with the Board and its Committees.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, and others.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- A minimum of five years work experience in non-profit agency operations management and supervision, with at least two years at the Unit Director level; or an equivalent combination of experience.
- Considerable knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate operations; in personnel supervision, the recruitment and retention of key personnel; facilities management; and budget management.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
