Full Job Description

Assistant Vice President of Program Development needed for Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, a large non-profit, single family home builder and social service provider. We are seeking a proficient, results-oriented candidate with excellent skills for this newly created position. Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the President’s goals, objectives, and decisions in a positive, proactive manner. Actively participate in management team meetings and activities. Provide input and make recommendations for organizational improvement whenever possible;
  • Assist senior management with development and implementation of any new, direct service programs and projects (some are in partnerships with other non-profits);
  • Liaison with governmental officials and departments and oversee governmental grant administration and compliance including addressing and resolving any questionable or unnecessary bureaucracy or barriers that inhibit our project timelines, efficiencies and/or cost effectiveness. Our goal is always to effectively and efficiently utilize government funds in a manner that facilitates as much direct service as possible.
  • Follow-up and follow-through on the details and solutions identified to keep our projects moving forward including monitoring and addressing progress of duties assigned to other staff, vendors, engineers, and others;
  • Prepare and present information, and do public presentations and public speaking;
  • Assist with identification and evaluation of new land prospects for future building, and land development activities;
  • Direct supervision of staff as indicated in the organizational chart;
  • Draft business plans, policies, and procedures as needed to facilitate effective program implementation;
  • Monitor program goals and activities and ensure they relate to Habitat’s mission, organizational goals and the President’s vision;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in position-relevant field;
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in development, implementation, and evaluation of multiple projects and programs; Minimum 4 years’ experience of direct-report employee supervision and training;
  • Significant experience with HUD HOME and CDBG grant administration, compliance, and project implementation including independent knowledge and understanding of HUD rules and regulations; (experience with City of San Antonio and Bexar County grant and contract processes preferred);
  • Goal and team oriented, a positive attitude with a good sense of humor, great people skills, with strong written and oral communication skills (bilingual in Spanish is a plus);
  • Great organizational skills with proficiency in producing timely paperwork, adherence to policies and procedures, and managing expenses and activities within budget; Ability to effectively multi-task to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; Detail oriented with a big-picture view;
  • Proficient computer skills with independent operation and utilization of Microsoft Office software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat Pro; Proficiency in GIS software a plus (but not required);
  • Knowledge of San Antonio residential building code, land development code, and code amendment and variance processes helpful but not required;
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening, must have and maintain a Texas drivers’ license and a good driving record.
  • This position will work and oversee a variety of programs and activities so must have strong physical and mental capabilities including the ability to load and unload, lift and carry 35 lbs, must be able to stand, walk, squat, climb stairs, and be on your feet for extended periods of time and independently traverse construction sites and raw, undeveloped, and in-process-of-being-developed lots. Must have good manual dexterity with fine motor control of both hands and fingers along with other physical and mental abilities that are needed to effectively manage, oversee, and function in both an office and field environment.

This is a full-time, salaried position. Specific days and hours will vary including some evening external meetings and occasional Saturday meetings and events. Habitat offices, facilities, job-sites and vehicles are all smoke and tobacco free environments. This is a new position, and selected candidate will be joining a highly effective, efficient, and high performing team!
