Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Clinical Operations (VPCO). In this role, you will be working closely with the Corporate Management team to implement clinical policies and procedures.

The candidate will be responsible for maintaining consistent, safe and effective nursing practices and the management of the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with policies, standards of nursing practices and regulatory requirements. Establish processes that are outcome focused as to maintain the highest possible level of care and services for each patient, while achieving the agency’s business objectives.
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and currently licensed by the State of Florida.
  • Previous Home Health experience.
  • Must be able to relate positively and favorably to patients, families, and government regulators, and to work cooperatively with others at all levels.
  • Must have experience in performance management and effective leadership.
  • Demonstrates understanding of state and federal regulations that govern the practices of the agency.
  • Must have ability to complete multiple tasks.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, including e-mail use.
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
  • Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation and reference inquiry.

  • Related administrative experience at a level necessary to accomplish the job
Conduct regular agency visits to monitor delivery of nursing services, operation of department, cleanliness and appearance of the agency and patients to assure nursing practices and delivery of nursing services provide a comfortable, clean and safe environment.
Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientation, training, evaluation, discipline and dismissal of directors of clinical services. Provides leadership to the nursing department in accordance with guidelines and regulations concerning the delivery of care to assure appropriate nursing services are delivered. Coordinates the implementation of formalized processes, interpret/train and monitors effectiveness of systems.
Develop and maintain nursing care objectives and standards of nursing care practices for each agency. Monitor departmental activities, communicates standards and guidelines, evaluate performance providing feedback and direction as needed.
Manage nursing department best practices to include monitoring of appropriate staffing, labor costs, purchases and services to meet financial objectives.
Manages staff retention by establishing expectations of effective communication, prompt problem resolution, proactive supervisory practices and maintaining a supportive work environment.
Assume administrative responsibility for the agency in the absence of the executive director and/or director of clinical services. Comply with, support and enforce policies involving risk management
Develop and maintain nursing standards and service objectives that govern efficient day-to-day operation of the nursing department.
Review through scheduled visits and mock surveys the documentation and delivery of nursing care according to the physician’s orders, care plans, and established standards and agency policies. Ensure the completion of the admission process, including the OASIS, RAP, summary, development and implementation of the Plan of Care. Monitor interdisciplinary team conferences.
Establish and maintain systems including audits for appropriate physician orders, documentation, appropriate medication, lab, x-ray, incident reports, etc., regarding patient services. Provide instruct for nursing staff on appropriate required actions.
Perform Benchmark reviews on a weekly basis. In areas showing decline, increased falls, decline in weight, etc.; implement immediate, appropriate interventions in areas exceeding threshold.
Supervise and evaluate performance to expectations of all nursing personnel.
Maintain an updated list of approved vendors. Demonstrate knowledge of policies governing medication administration and documentation. Demonstrate knowledge of drug reactions and sensitivities and nursing interventions. Educate nurses as needed regarding the medication regimens.
Recognize normal and abnormal lab values.
Monitor, track and trend infection rates. Support continuous practices that utilize universal precautions, infection control practices, fire safety and sanitation practices and procedures.
Demonstrate positive customer service in performance of job duties. Establish and maintain function positive relations with patients, families, staff and visitors. Communicates effectively displaying respect and active listening.
Assign duties and delegate responsibilities to the regional personnel according to their abilities and patient needs.
Promote compassionate patient care services. Establish and maintain positive interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers. Resolve customer issues and/or concerns to achieve positive outcomes.
Oversee orientation in-service training and health programs for regional staff. Duties: Practice and promote adherence to agency safety policies
Assure proper handling of emergency care for patients, employees, and visitors.
Ensure equipment and work areas are clean, safe and orderly, and any hazardous conditions are addressed. Support and enforce all agency policies related to safety and infection control, including the use of personal protective equipment.
Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding patients’ rights; promote positive relationships with patients, visitors, and regulators, to include presenting a professional appearance.
Maintains expected ethical and legal standards including matters related to patient abuse or neglect, by personally complying with laws and the maintenance of applicable policies and procedures to safeguard the patients.
When in doubt about whether a particular activity is proper, refrains from the activity and obtains guidance from the VP of home health operations or risk manager.
Reinforces through example and provides training on the expectation that all employees conform to these ethical and legal standards.
Responds promptly and thoroughly when problems are reported. Plans, implements and monitors corrective action when problems including ethics and compliance and patient abuse or neglect are identified. Maintains compliance with reporting requirements.
Direct quality improvement activities including training and education of Strategic Health Programs, HCHB, handheld devices, OBQI, OBQM, Home Health Compare, and Provider Link.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Director of Nursing experience is strongly preferred.
  • 2-5 years clinical management experience in the healthcare field.
  • Knowledge of state requirements and federal guidelines.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility to supervise multiple facilities.
  • Demonstrate quality leadership & motivational skills.
  • Knowledge of Therapy, MDS/PPS processes, Staff Development, and Dietary services and regulations.
