DEFINITION

Under general supervision of City Administration, monitors, maintains and provides technical support to the various information technology systems for the City of Durant and supervises other City information technology workers and contractors plus manages City Information Technology budget.

TASKS

· Monitors, maintains, and provides technical support to the various information technology systems for the City of Durant.

· Maintains data security and limited access to users.

  • Oversees technical projects in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Directs the effective delivery of networks, development, and disaster recovery systems and processes throughout all City locations.
  • Develops and recommends solutions to network needs.
  • Supervises City Information Technology Personnel, while working closely with management, external vendors and advisors.
  • Continually assesses and monitors the abilities of subordinate staff and provides or assigns training when needed.
  • Prepares financial budgets and presents proposals for capital projects to City Administration.
  • Researches and recommends new products.
  • Leads efforts to improve IT processes.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of network system administration principles and practices.

Knowledge of network security methods and techniques.

Knowledge of network security methods and techniques.

Knowledge of user support and training methods and techniques.

Skill in troubleshooting and repairing network services and systems.

Skill in oral and written communications.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Performs Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point use with basic skills, email basic skills.

Knowledge of computer systems (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.), network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems (in-house and cloud), and telecommunications systems (Emergency 911 systems).

Knowledge of relevant coding languages and programming skills.

Generates Incode budget reports and manages budget for IT Department.

Completes procurement process to city standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an office environment. Work may require frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 60 pounds. May be exposed to repetitive motion, vision to monitor and electrical current.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelors degree in Computer Science or closely related field (Master’s preferred), AND ­four (4) years experience in network operation and technical support; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
