The Silvi Group, a vertically integrated ready-mix concrete and construction material supplier, is seeking a Head of Purchasing. The Head of Purchasing will be tasked with obtaining goods and services at the most favorable price and terms for the Silvi Group Companies while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key contractors and suppliers. The successful candidate will be proactive in their approach to coordinating all stages of the procurement process, will assist the department he or she services in reviewing requisitions and generating purchase orders, and will confer with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule. The ideal candidate will also understand basic supplier/vendor contract terms, including insurance requirements, and be highly skilled at negotiating favorable terms on behalf of the Silvi Group Companies.
Company Description
Through a combination of growth and acquisitions, The Silvi Group has become one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of concrete and aggregate products in the Northeast, US. Today, the company manufactures concrete at multiple locations and supplies those plants with materials from its own mining operations and deep-water port facility.


Position Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all stages of procurement for the Silvi Group’s import, aggregate and ready-mix entities.
  • Receive, review and respond to requisitions to ensure an understanding of Company needs and budget.
  • Initiate purchase orders in accordance with the Company’s PO approval process.
  • Effectively communicate with vendors to obtain information regarding pricing, availability, lead time and delivery schedule.
  • Leverage aggregate buying needs across multiple entities to negotiate the best possible contract and price terms.
  • Provide purchase planning and recommendations for improvements to internal purchasing process by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and trends.
  • Ensure that all vendors are compliant with the Silvi Group Companies contract, safety and insurance requirements.
  • Maintain complete vendor records to provide an accurate catalog of high quality, compliant vendors.
  • Proactively review parts inventory levels at all sites and initiate purchase orders to meet operational needs.
  • Drive compliance with the Company’s purchasing policies and processes, including purchase order approvals and purchasing limits.
  • Confirm products and services received are consistent with contract terms before submitting invoices for payment.
  • Be available outside of core business hours to field urgent purchasing requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field is strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in a similar role; preferably in heavy industrial manufacturing, concrete ready mix, or mining.
  • Experience in purchasing heavy industrial equipment and machinery highly preferred.
  • Highly skilled at contract negotiation
  • Experience with digital PO software systems.
  • Familiarity with standard procurement concepts, best practices and techniques.
  • Good understanding of logistics and supply chain management
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive team player.
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Able to work in a demanding, fast paced environment
  • Social skills to work with both internal and external customers / contacts.
