Head of Product

Company: ForAllSecure
Location: Palo Alto, CA

Apply

As head of product, you’ll spearhead building out our product Mayhem to make the world’s software safe. Mayhem is an enterprise product that brings autonomy to testing and cybersecurity evaluation of common, off-the-shelf software. Mayhem deploys on-premise and in private cloud. Mayhem is not a $5/month SaaS service; Mayhem is an enterprise solution. You will be the primary driver for evolving Mayhem to bring value to our customers in the public sector and burgeoning enterprise market segments.

The Head of product is inherently cross-function. You will have four main areas of responsibility:

  • Lead the definition of the product roadmap, conducting user and buyer studies.
  • Define implementation tasks by asking three questions:
  • What are the most important stories?
  • What work can get done in this sprint?
  • What’s the end result expected?
  • Evangelize Mayhem features developed with marketing, sales, engineering, and leadership. You help each segment know all the other segments know what the value of each feature, demo how it works, and make sure everyone knows the roadmap.
  • Own UX and the voice of the users.

We value teamwork and player/coaches. You welcome the opportunity to learn new things, and practice what you preach by being a vocal user of Mayhem. You coach the team on where both end-users and buyers find value, and what needs to be done to help create more. You are results-oriented, intelligent, charismatic, positive, and have enterprise awareness.

As the head of product, a typical week includes:

  • Building and maintaining a dashboard of user, field, marketing, and engineering feature requests. Your work ensures the team has visibility and confidence we’re capturing all feedback, and foresight into the short and long-term context of the product evolution.
  • Walking through a new release of the product with field and marketing teams, with engineering support. You demonstrate new features or fixes, and help shape for field and marketing how it helps the user or what pain point it addresses. You maintain a product matrix to make sure the field knows what use cases are supported, and what are not.
  • Leading a design sprint with the company on new ideas for new products or major features.
  • Enable and support UX under your leadership to iterate on the next market or customer experiment with a hypothesis. You make sure all stakeholders are informed and can participate appropriately.
  • Working on board slides for the quarterly board meeting, where you’ll present the product roadmap and recent release. You’ll anticipate thoughtful questions the board may ask on “when” or “why” or “why not” to big questions like what languages to support, what features a vertical really needs vs. just wants, and what revenue you hope implementing them will hope to achieve.

The job requirements are:

  • Since we work with customers in the DoD and Intelligence Community, the head of product must be a US citizen. This will enable them to talk to this customer segment without friction.
  • Be able to become the most avid user of Mayhem. This means you will be able to use Docker, the UNIX CLI, and have prior experience with developing C/C++ applications (other compiled languages also ok) . You have used CI/CD tools like Jenkins or Travis, and docker. You understand all the components — executable code, source code, shared libraries, configuration files, etc. — that are needed for a complete application to run. You understand the defects found by Mayhem.
  • Are obsessively organized. Product must organize and keep track of many different inputs, such as user input, internal stakeholder input, and the engineering backlog. You keep these inputs organized and prioritized so that everyone understands the product roadmap, and can see at-a-glance the stakeholders and reasons for a feature at a glance.
  • Love programming new and refining existing processes. A series A startup is an exciting place, where every 6 months the team has grown. Leaders focus on building an amazing system for the flow of information.
  • You are resourceful and creative in UX. You work with your UX team to get information needed, overcoming barriers such as finding users for user studies, even though we do not have 10,000 users to poll.
  • Experience building an enterprise-focused product. We are not a single-install SaaS; we are on-prem and private cloud, where our customers run high value targets (like components from a weapons system) that they do not wish to upload to a public cloud.
  • Prior experience leading the evolution of successful projects.

About ForAllSecure:
ForAllSecure’s mission is to make software safe and trustworthy. We believe security isn’t about fear; it’s about enabling trust in those systems that power our lives, memories, infrastructure, and businesses.

We were founded after decades of research at Carnegie Mellon University. Our product, Mayhem, was first unleashed in the DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge, a challenge to show fully autonomous cybersecurity is possible. We’ve taken the core research tech from DARPA and built a commercial product that operates on-prem or in the private cloud. ForAllSecure products are used in companies where software is infrastructure, including aerospace (yep, we help secure planes you fly on), automotive, the Department of Defense (and the IC too!), and cloud providers.

Our core values include helping customers, tenacity, creativity, collaboration, teamwork, and a safe workplace. We value open discussion, that disagreement means people are thinking hard about problems and trust each other to consider feedback, and that when a decision is made there is full commitment.

This position reports to the CEO.
