The director of programs and services reports to the executive director and is responsible for developing, implementing, programs and services that serve the LGBTQ community in the Hudson Valley. The director works closely with the Coordinator of the LGBTQ Well-Being Institute to ensure smooth program delivery. The person in this position facilitates partnerships with government, educational, and other agencies to provide essential and supportive services to the community, with special emphasis on health and wellness, education, and social support. The position supervises the Program Specialist who supports programs and services at the Center.
- Develop a vision and design for new programming to meet the identified needs of the region’s LGBTQ community
- Periodically assess programming for relevance, feasibility, outcomes, and impact
- Periodically revise or discontinue programming in response to changing community needs or demographics
- Coordinate with local, regional, and state agencies in developing programs responsive to the community’s needs
- Identify, train, and oversee facilitators to implement and run programming (sometimes in conjunction with other agencies)
- Work with the executive director to set the calendar of annual program events
- Manage corps of professional trainers for deployment
- Receive and process training requests from outside clients
- Coordinate with trainers and schedule trainings based on requests
- Increase number and scope of trainers relative to trends in the number and types of training requests received
- Compile and/or develop materials for training handouts
- Follow up with clients to assess impact of training and schedule possible future trainings
- Identify grants with the potential to fund programs that meet the identified needs of the community
- Ensure compliance with grant-funded program requirements
- Prepare regular reports to granting agencies based on grant requirements
- Supervise Program Specialist
- Regularly set goals and priorities with program specialist to meet program needs
- Periodically review the program specialist’s performance
Qualifications
- A strong commitment to the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center’s mission, values, and goals.
- Bachelors or master’s degree plus five years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of the LGBTQ community’s political/civil, medical, and social needs, and general familiarity with LGBTQ culture.
- Excellent time management, organizational, public speaking, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain a collegial work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and economic backgrounds.
