POSITION SALARY RANGE: $95,000 – $125,000

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Fund Development

  • In partnership with the Executive Director and development staff (three FTE’s), develop and execute a cost-effective and broad-based fundraising program to secure general operating support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations.
  • Work with PIN’s Board and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective donors.
  • Identify major gift prospects and conduct personal meetings, ongoing follow-up and requests for support.
  • Manage current grant funders and conduct prospect research and outreach to identify and engage with potential grant funders.
  • Draft and submit grant proposals for operational support and capital improvement projects.
  • Draft appeal letters and other fundraising- and marketing-related publications.
  • Identify new corporate partners and work with the Program Manager to expand corporate relationships.
  • Plan donor stewardship and cultivation events.
  • Oversee donor data management efforts, ensuring data entry is accurate and comprehensive and that acknowledgement letters are turned around within a 48-hour window.
  • Assist the Executive Director in working with the Strategic Planning Committee.
  • Present to the Pets In Need Board of Directors, as requested by the Executive Director.

Communications

  • Prepare and implement a communications and marketing plan that incorporates social media, paid and earned media, direct mail and advertising to increase public awareness about PIN.
  • Work with marketing staff to maintain a visually appealing and user-friendly website, Facebook and Instagram accounts and monthly e-newsletters that promote PIN programs and events.
  • Collaborate with staff on the adoption and volunteer management teams to promote adoption events, volunteer achievements and organizational highlights.
  • Conduct outreach to media contacts with focus on securing earned media opportunities.
  • Explore and possibly pursue opportunities for paid media.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Pets In Need, as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Oversee the annual anniversary event, a “friendraiser” at the Redwood City shelter.
  • Create and implement cost-effective events that promote Pets In Need.
  • Produce an annual report at the conclusion of each fiscal year.

Additional

  • Supervise the Marketing Manager, the Social Media and Marketing Manager and Development Assistant.
  • Staff the Development and Marketing Committees, ensuring that committee members have a clearly defined strategy and the tools necessary to execute on that strategy.
  • Attend and participate in board meetings, community meetings and other off-site activities.
  • Based upon feasibility study results, direct Pets In Need’s capital campaign effort to generate funds to construct a new animal shelter in Palo Alto.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • No allergic conditions that would be aggravated when animals are present in the work place.
  • Ability to lift and move objects and animals weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances and to humanely restrain animals, when necessary.

Educational Experience, Abilities and Qualities Required:

  • Interest in animal welfare and commitment to expanding protections for abused and neglected animals;
  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree and/or CFRE preferred;
  • Track record of success in building fundraising programs and achieving annual fundraising goals;
  • Campaign experience required;
  • Experience in cost-effectively managing fundraising events and programs is preferred;
  • Proven ability to maintain poise and to manage multiple assignments efficiently;
  • Must be a strong writer;
  • Articulate and willing to serve as a public figure for the organization;
  • Ability to build partnerships and gain consensus with co-workers, volunteer leaders and peers;
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented;
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM databases, and social media;

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $95,000.00 to $125,000.00 /year
