- Plans and directs the activities of staff involved in the on-going maintenance repair of all biomedical equipment
- Evaluates, audits and monitors staff productivity, efficiency, work quality, and performance
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for equipment maintenance and repair that complies with state and federal regulations
- Develops work schedules for staff and makes adjustments as needed to accommodate changing workloads
- Participates in equipment pre-purchase evaluation, consultation and negotiations
- Develops long and short term plans for maintenance of equipment
- Performs safety testing and preventative maintenance on clinical equipment
- Directs the work of contractor and vendor support personnel
- Manages a computerized maintenance system
- Participates in medical device recalls, alerts, incident reporting and investigations
- Monitors departmental budget
- Maintains equipment, parts and supplies inventory
- Conducts education and training on biomedical equipment for hospital staff
- Continually assesses and strategically plans for technology utilization
- Leads and/or participates in biomedical equipment system projects, including recommending sole source service vendors, system service contracts, best practices, and policy and procedure development
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience at the level of Biomedical Equipment Technician II in Contra Costa County classified services, at least one (1) year of which was in a lead capacity
OR
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of biomedical or related technical equipment, at least one (1) year of which was in a lead capacity.
Certification: Within the first year of employment, appointees must successfully obtain a valid certificate as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) issued by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.
