ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC TRANSIT
SALARY RANGE: $72,165 – $87,000 DOQ
The historic and vibrant City of
Fredericksburg is seeking a highly qualified person to fill the
full-time position of Assistant Director of Public Transit. The
Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations
of a 30-bus, 20-route/route deviation service in the City and the
surrounding counties of Spotsylvania and Stafford. FREDericksburg
Regional Transit (FRED) employs approximately 90 full- and part-time
drivers, mechanics, planning and administrative staff with a budget of
approximately $5,000,000 annually. FRED has completed major capital
projects over the past decade that include a passenger terminal,
maintenance facility and operations center. The Assistant Director
reports to the Director of Public Transit and assists the Director in
managing all FRED operations including vehicle and facility maintenance,
planning, personnel, government and customer relations and financial
affairs. Work involves managing system safety and security; planning,
programming and budgeting for current and future services; planning for
and procurement of facilities and equipment; applying for and managing
Federal and State grants; ensuring compliance with Federal and State
regulatory requirements; hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining
staff; communicating with City Council and County Boards, the business
and academic communities, and the public; and developing policies and
procedures. Direct reports to the Assistant Director are the Operations
Manager and the Fleet Manager. In addition to offering a great work

Applicants should have a minimum of a
Bachelor”s Degree and three (3) years of transit/transportation
experience with financial/budgeting, media relations, government
affairs/liaison and supervisory experience. Applicants with equivalent
combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.
