Held in New York City and Washington, D.C., Summer Academy (SA) provides an immersive environment during 2-week terms, in which students from across the globe learn, investigate and explore while having fun and discovering friends, mentors and instructors who share their interests.
Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Residential Life team, the Program Director will manage the administrative and programmatic aspects of the Summer Academy experience. As leaders, Program Directors are expected to serve as a role model for responsible behavior, work ethic and integrity for both staff and students throughout SA.
Program Directors will work closely with the Associate Director of Residential Life and Program Assistants to provide high quality experiences when students are not in classes as well as chaperones when classes leave campus for site visits. Programming outside of classes range from purely recreational (i.e. Movie Night) to structured workshops (i.e. applying to college). Program Directors are responsible for overseeing duties including (but not limited to): ensuring safety on site visits, tracking petty cash, leading trips to Central Park and MOMA, serving as on-the-ground support for day-to-day challenges and working 80+ School staff to provide a positive learning environment. Program Directors need to be comfortable working with high school students, problem-solvers, and able to adapt when conditions (schedule, weather, etc.) change.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.
- Ensure the safety of students while on campus and on field trips
- Ensure successful execution of core activities (Student Orientation, Central Park Night, Cultural Enrichment Day, Harbor Cruise Night)
- Execute activities for students to attend when not in class (e. college tours, game night, talent show, etc.)
- Follow safety and discipline protocols when situations require action
- Support students when they need guidance and refer them to counseling when necessary
- Document discipline infractions
- Observe and monitor student progress
- Support the overall operations of SA via being a resource of information at the Welcome Desk or distributing meal vouchers
- Provide support for move-in and move-out days

- Salary of $13,000 (11 weeks)
During Summer Academy you can expect to be welcomed to an inclusive environment that emphasizes continual improvement, open communication and collaboration. Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure
Our ideal candidate would meet or exceed the following qualifications:
- Bachelorâs degree or currently in college
- 4+ years of job experience working with youth in summer camps, boarding schools, or residential halls on a college campus
- Enthusiastic about working with youth between the ages 15-18
- Effective communicator on the phone, in person, and online
- Can recognize an issue and address it in a timely manner
- Curious about the city and comfortable exploring it with students

Dates
Program Directors move into the residence halls on May 26, 2020 in preparation of training, which begins June 1, 2020. Students arrive on campus June 7, 2020 and leave on July 31, 2020. Program Directors will be expected to be available for the full period between May 26 and August 1, 2020; Program Directors will move out of the dorms before noon on August 1.
