AWS Activate is a program designed to help early stage startups build and grow successful businesses on AWS. AWS Activate gives startups personalized recommendations on offerings from across the Amazon ecosystem to help them prototype and build their services and find customers. These offerings include things like AWS Credits; distribution channels such as AWS Marketplace and APN; white glove onboarding and advertising support to sell on Amazon.com; and enabling extensions in Twitch. AWS Activate will also provide tailored technical guidance on AWS services, technical architecture and relevant technical content.

The AWS Activate team is seeking a Head of Business Operations to support multiple aspects of the AWS Activate business, including managing some of our most prolific customer offerings, managing a team of operations professionals, and being responsible for managing all business reporting and metrics. Successful candidates should have strong writing, communication, program management, analytical, and organizational skills, and a passion for driving operational excellence. You should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about operations, business, product, and program challenges to unlock our ability to serve customers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage key aspects of the Activate program, along with a team of program, analyst and operations professionals
  • Serve as a key member of the AWS Activate team to own operational deliverables, such as reporting, resourcing, and narrative development for the overall business strategy.
  • Develop, implement and monitor strategy for engaging with the early startup community.
  • Think creatively to determine how to streamline processes and improve the overall efficiency of the team, including team communication, best practices, etc.
  • Manage key business cadence activities such as strategic planning, resource justification and allocation,
  • Build strong global processes that are meant to scale, yet flexible enough to address the unique needs of specific geographies.
  • Own improvement projects & new initiatives from conception to team delivery as established in collaboration with Startup BD leadership.
  • Define, measure and leverage KPIs to consistently improve

  • Strong leadership and communication (verbal and written) skills are a must.
  • Operational savvy, ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously while focused on execution and results.
  • Experience working with technical teams to improve and build processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully cross-functionally and communicate effectively with senior leadership on program objective, goals and metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize next steps to continuously grow programs that increases AWS’ influence in the startup ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated understanding and savvy of the startup space and common patterns of success for their portfolio companies.
  • Highly proficient in Excel.
  • MBA or equivalent relevant business experience.
  • Strong operational experience preferably in a product or business function.
  • Advanced Excel skills, Structured Query Language (SQL) and other analytical tools.
