Under the general direction of the Director of UCLA Mail, Document & Distribution Services (MDDS), the Assistant Director of Mail, Document & Distribution Services supports the Director and Associate Director in departmental planning, execution of operations, and monitoring results.

The position works to enhance productivity and ensure compliance with rules and regulations through provision of leadership and project management. Successful candidates are leaders and critical thinkers, ready to solve problems before they become obstacles. The goal is to help the department attain objectives of productivity and employee satisfaction. Performance and operations management experience is a plus including both delegation of duties and assuming duties as delegated.

Specific responsibility for cross functional team of employees supporting Department 3215, 3220, and 3290 in Operations and Finances.

Required/Preferred

Bachelor’s degree or 5 years work related experience to include strategic planning, budgeting, assessing resources, project management, financial and systems analysis, and personnel development.

Required

Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting practices, in particular the accounting policies and procedures of the University of California.

Demonstrated skill in financial analysis and fund management, particularly in a University setting to include budget preparation and presentation.

Demonstrated analytic skills necessary to independently research and analyze information, issues, operational practices, and policies in an effort to formulate actions and carry out decisions in a logical and appropriate manner.

Knowledge of supervision and management methods, procedures, and practices.

Knowledge of planning, development and assessment of new programs.

Knowledge of best practice procedures for service units within a University setting.

Required

Knowledge of human resource management concepts, policies and procedures.

Knowledge of records management, documentation, and retention policies.

Required

Knowledge of safety procedures, plans and protocols as it pertains to DOT compliance and OSHA regulations (particularly in the compressed gas marketplace).

Working knowledge of University Sales and Service activities.

Business computing and writing skills sufficient for presentation to University executives.
