POSITION: VICE PRESIDENT, ASSOCIATE EDITORIAL DIRECTOR


SUMMARY:
Assists SVP with departmental responsibilities, while supervising numerous teams and maintaining editorial excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College graduate
  • Managerial/supervisory experience in medical copy editing in pharmaceutical advertising agency, in-house agency or medical publishing company
  • Knowledge of AMA style essential
  • Curiosity/interest in medical topics essential
  • Organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage numerous teams essential
  • Prior experience as Managing Editor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervises solid, intelligent, brand-appropriate pieces in a variety of communication forms for a variety of audiences
    • Supervises editorial content and promotes Best Practices with strong, clear direction
    • Gives sound direction to editors
    • Has an ability to understand and process healthcare information
    • Thoroughly understands his/her assigned brand(s) and regularly researched trends in the appropriate area(s)
    • Works well independently and on a team
    • Leads teammates; maintains a strong relationship with Copy, Art, and Account Services, and follows CDM procedures
    • Presents points of view articulately and persuasively within CDM and with client when applicable
    • Actively stewards multiple teams. Enhances client’s confidence in CDM
    • Has strong managerial skills. Actively develops the careers of his/her editors
    • Exemplifies the values of CDM and contributes to the overall culture of the agency
    • Assists the Editorial Director with departmental evaluations and disciplinary actions, recruitment and training of staff, and scheduling of per diem editors
    • Editing and proofreading a variety of promotional and educational materials for physicians, other healthcare professionals, and patients from manuscript through prepress stage of production
    • Working with the various product groups to ensure that materials are of the highest quality in terms of accuracy, utility, clarity, readability, and appeal
    • For various products when needed:

      • Responsibility for and coordination of quality control of projects, including copy editing, styling, and fact checking initial manuscript, reading set copy from first laser printouts through blues
      • Working closely with writers to resolve content/referencing issues
      • Working closely with account team on content/scheduling issues
      • Word processing manuscript changes using Microsoft Word
