Acts in the senior leadership role for all Girl Scout camp activities including oversight of outdoor programs (both day camp & overnight camp), management of eight camp properties, equestrian program and leader of strategic direction. Strong leadership, project management and communication skills are required for this position. The VP of Camp Programs and Properties (CPP) oversees a diverse staff across a wide geographic area as well as interfaces with council level staff, donors and volunteers. Weekly travel is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with other departments to assure programs are well coordinated to maximize outside funding and community visibility and to enhance the quality and delivery of CPP services. Ensure that the organization’s outdoor education, equine and camp programs are visible and engaged with funders, government, the GSWW Board and community organizations as well as other program departments within GSWW. Participate in council strategic planning and implementation.
  • Direct the maintenance and capital improvement program for the Council’s 8 camp properties to ensure that capital needs are developed, capital assets are protected; facilities, grounds, and equipment support program needs. Act as an escalation point for land management, real estate and/or legal issues that may arise.
  • Direct the assessment, design, and implementation of outdoor & equine programs and delivery systems to meet the needs of girls from diverse ages, communities, and backgrounds. Ensure that programs are high quality, cost effective and operated in a manner that meets council, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., and American Camp Association health and safety standards.
  • Work with the marketing & registration team to develop and guide the implementation of marketing & camp strategies to assure maximum participation levels in all department programs and facilities. This includes camp (day & overnight) programs, community guests (rental use for internal & external customers), troop camping and equestrian programming.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets to support department plans, including forecasting participation levels, goal setting and developing competitive market fee structures.
  • Actively participate as a member of the council’s management team to promote cooperation, communication, and collaboration in accomplishing the council’s annual and strategic goals.
  • In addition to the above, perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, hotel and restaurant administration, business or related field or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Five years’ progressively responsible experience at the management level of youth program development, retreat/conference center/recreational facility management, and/or capital construction.
  • Experience in strategic management of camp programs and properties.
  • Risk management experience.
  • Project Management skills with proven success.
  • Ability to document, update and implement safety and camp policies.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading teams and working with volunteers.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing innovative youth programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative and maintain confidentiality in a fast paced and challenging work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals of all levels and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in sales and marketing.
  • Excellent public speaking and writing skills.
  • Experience in the development and administration of work plans, budgets, and program evaluation.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work varied hours, including some nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Skilled in Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access or other database system.
  • Demonstrated ability successfully working with a variety of racial and ethnic groups.
  • Effective communicator with the capacity to collaborate with others and be a team player
  • Satisfactory results from criminal background search
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license, proof of insurance, or the ability to fulfill timely and occasional travel requirements across widespread regional geography
  • Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
  • Maintain Girl Scouts membership.
