This GM position will be responsible for all aspects of delivering on the business goals including product roadmap, strategic partnerships, supply chain strategy as well as the go to market. This leader will work cross functionally with engineering, supply chain, research, marketing and sales as well as a customer support and services to deliver needed capabilities. This leader will manage a team who owns all facets of the business area. This leader must have both strong business acumen including P&L operations and very good technical understanding of this space and the market. This leader will need to be adept at cross organization alignment, direct team management as well as customer engagement and marketing. Key performance indicators include on-time, on-budget, on-quality delivery of the roadmap commitments, as well as execution against the short and long term goals of the business.

The leader for this Photonics business incubation will be required to interact with industry partners to enable portfolio growth. In addition, those partnerships may require contract negotiations and will interact with corporate legal counsel and human resources to achieve objectives. Executive presentations and customer briefings are part of the job commitment so attention to detail is critical and timely follow up is required. Finally, this leader is expected to set a vision with the team and lead with a sense of urgency while modeling the HPE high standards of leadership.


Core Job Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and ongoing strategic leadership through direct and indirect reporting relationships for a team designing and developing photonics-based solutions
  • Creates strategic and tactical operations and resource plans, goals, and priorities for the business and organization.
  • Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for the organization, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated andthat goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with organizational metrics and business plans.
  • Engages with program managers, sales, marketing, supply chain, technical leaders and executives to communicate program status, escalate issues, and guide and influence strategic decision-making
  • Manages and develops executive relationships and escalated issues with design partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; identifies opportunities for strategic growth and development
  • Provides overall people-care management for direct reports, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; drives and fosters organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development


Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced leadership skills including coaching, team building, conflict resolution, and people management
  • Managed a scaled P&L and has experience incubating new businesses. This should include deep business acumen, technical knowledge, and industry experience encompassing one or more technology, business, sales, and/or product domains
  • Understands GTM including pricing, marketing and creating/leveraging of key sales capabilities.
  • Organizational and strategic management skills, including strategic vision, executive/marketing communications (written, verbal, and presentation) and planning/forecasting
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage teams across diverse geographies and functional areas to drive workforce development and achieve desired results
  • Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering and consulting with executive/C-level roles for internal and external partners

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate business or technical degree is required; an advanced university degree is strongly preferred
  • 15 or more years of related work experience – in the photonics or VLSI area is a plus
  • Managed P&L as well as large teams
  • Incubated one or more business areas with domain experience in one or more disciplines
  • Operational experience and success in a scaled enterprise focused company
