Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM’s Digital Workplace Engineering team is focused on engineering tools and applications IBMers need to be effective. Through a family of apps and services, we’re building an environment which is constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to push the limits on productivity and collaboration. As a Technical Project Manager, you’ll work with end-to-end development teams and help them unite around a mission and reach their full potential. The Technical Project Manager must be able to adopt, thrive, navigate, and succeed in the acceptance of the system integrator’s methodology and tools, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. The Technical Project Manager must be able to support high-level strategic initiatives as directed by senior management, and also roll up his/her sleeves, dig in and get the job done.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product owners and engineering manger to establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and contracted work scope specifications.
  • Oversee organization, scheduling, and implementation of projects to regularly communicate progress and risks within the team and across other teams.
  • Participate in release planning, identify dependencies and work in close liaison with external teams.
  • Host regular program meetings to discuss project status, identify and implement solutions to address risks and issues, and drive decision making to deliver on time.
  • Analyze and report on team productivity.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3+ plus years of experience leading a cross functional project team and managing risks in an Agile environment.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate between technical and non-technical contributors, as well as between development teams and senior leadership.
  • Proven talent for uniting and motivating teams towards a common goal.
  • Proficiency with project management and reporting tools such as Jira or ZenHub
  • An understanding of development process, including design, development, testing, and deployment.


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Certified Scrum Master or other relevant Agile project management Certifications (CSM, SAFe or PMI-ACP)
  • An understanding of web and mobile application technologies
  • BA/BS degree in a technical discipline

Digital Workplace Engineering (DWE) provides IBMers, managers, and HR practitioners with critical tools and experiences they need to be productive. Led by Jill Fourie, the DWE team prioritizes solving the problems that keep IBMers from doing their job effectively and delivering world-class solutions that both simplify and enhance the IBMer experience.

The DWE team oversees some of the most widely-recognized and widely-used tools within IBM, such as email, Workday, Concur, the w3 ecosystem (which includes Bluepages, w3 Publisher, w3 Search, and Help@IBM, among others), Checkpoint, Connections, and more.

DWE’s strategy is to build an ecosystem of libraries, services, and platforms that can scale across IBM. This allows the team to maximize their impact on the IBMer experience and advance the digital workplace within IBM. The team applies modern engineering practices to each problem and process, then continuously iterates to find and optimize solutions.
