Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Virginia Tech Health Sciences & Technology, Finance and Operations and Senior Associate Director for Finance and Administration (FBRI), the Sr. HR Manager is specifically responsible for managing HR operations at FBRI and Roanoke-based units (HS&T, TBMH) in accordance with university and state policies and procedures. The Sr. HR Manager works with Institute and VP area leadership to manage recruitment logistics, onboarding processes, compensation benchmarking, performance planning, evaluation processes, benefits consulting and communication, diversity initiatives, HR policy development, employee relations, threat assessment and HR data analytics. The Sr. HR Manager counsels both employees and supervisors as needed and serve as liaison to VTâs central HR VP area.
Core responsibilities:
- Facilitates talent acquisition process, including sourcing, developing job descriptions, interviewing, diversity, hiring and on-boarding.
- Implements employee benefits programs.
- Manages human resource staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training and supervising.
- Compilation, maintenance, analysis and presentation of HR analytics inside and outside university HR and finance systems.
- Develops training and performance management program that fosters career path development and ensures all employees are familiar with their job responsibilities, as well as relevant legal and safety requirements.
- Creates and updates compensation strategy through market analysis and internal equity benchmarking.
- Handles employee relations with investigation and resolution of employee issues, concerns and conflicts.
- Maintains HR compliance with federal, state and local regulations; work visa requirements, renewals, timing and eligibility; record keeping.
- Facilities work structure and process flow by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
- Foster diversity & inclusive initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorâs degree in Human Resource Management or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Significant experience in an HR management role.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
- Strong consulting, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to compile and analyze work force data to guide strategic planning and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage workload, meet objectives and deadlines, make independent decisions and creatively solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masterâs degree in Human Resource Management or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience in an academic, biomedical, and/or complex research oriented environment.
- Experience with systems such as Banner HRIS, PageUp, TCP, and MicroStrategy or similar.
- Experience with Virginia Tech human resources policies and procedures.
- SPHR/PHR certification.
