Position Purpose:
Support Pet Services in achieving the grooming objectives of putting the customer first, accelerated sales growth, expense control, and profit enhancement through the supervision and execution of strategic projects, analytical tools and roles within the department. The Project Specialist will maintain and manage projects as assigned including the stakeholder alignment, project kick-off, resource identification, interdependencies, collaboration, general project management and implementation of plans. Additionally, the Project Specialist will be a liaison between cross-functional project team leads, executive sponsors and other key contributors to ensure progress against stated goals and objectives are achieved.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the project specialist point of contact for Pet Services strategic initiatives projects
- Supports, maintains, and manages detailed project plans, action item registers, and major milestone timelines for assigned projects.
- Meet with cross-functional project team leads and other key contributors to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project.
- Delegate project tasks based on what is required from other departments, or other key contributors in Pet Services based on individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels.
- Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short- and long-term goals.
- Meet budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints based on financial analysis.
- Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with the Pet Services leadership team as well as other partners.
- Proactively look for opportunities to drive change and improve both process and project outcomes
- Use and continually develop leadership skills.
Nature of Supervision:
General instruction and/or functional guidance may be provided on some, but not all tasks to be performed. Supervision is minimal and daily responsibilities are carried out with little or no direct interaction with the supervisor and considerable discretion is used for problem resolution.
Work Environment:
Most job responsibilities are performed while seated indoors with little exposure to hazards. Approx. 20% travel is required to field locations by plane or automobile.
Contacts:
This position will have contact with senior and above leadership to report issues relating to significant projects throughout the company. It will have daily contact with members of the Pet Services team, business partners from the SSC and NSC, field and store leadership, vendors and other stakeholders to address and resolve issues relating to the execution of strategies and tactics.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related field, OR three (3) years of experience in a directly related field.
One to three years of additional education in the fields of communication, business administration and/or management is preferred.
3 yearsâ experience in project management
Experience with process improvement and inventory control
PMP Certification
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
Advanced time management and analytical skills
Ability to generate ideas and engage in creative problem solving
Excellent client-facing communication skills
Candidate may be required to complete PETCO training in the area of each Pet Service to establish a knowledge foundation.
