Essential Functions:
The Director of Operations is a transformational change agent who will define, implement and continuously improve manufacturing core competencies and processes with a focus on success and customer satisfaction through the implementation of metrics to ensure manufacturing meets all customer and division requirements in a predictable and repeatable manner.

The Director of Operations will lead, direct and coordinate activities, and have overall responsibility for all manufacturing strategy and execution to include production, materials, shipping, receiving, manufacturing engineering, production planning and repair and overhaul.As a key member of the senior leadership team and reporting directly to the Vice President of Manufacturing and matrixed to the division VP/GM, you will collaborate and team across the business, L3 Commercial Aviation Solutions sector and supply chain partners to optimize the divisions manufacturing model.

  • Ensure customer and division requirements are consistently understood and met, with a priority on customer on-time delivery and product quality.
  • Employs lean and six sigma principles in both the manufacturing and back office environment to streamline processes, reduce waste, and increase throughput.
  • Maintains predictable consistency in all elements of operational performance.
  • When fully achieving customer requirements, pursue cost reduction through management of material cost/lead-time, yield, reduced rework, reduced manufacturing cycle time, etc.
  • Develops a should-cost analysis based on well known labor and material costs to ensure predictable and effective cost reduction plans.
  • Oversee organization resources and planning including labor, raw materials, machinery, equipment, tools, and subcontract activity.
  • Establish positive collaboration across all functional elements of the business, specifically including manufacturing collaboration with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Program Management and Business Development, to drive product designs that meet customer and manufacturing optimized requirements.
  • Ensures critical participation in proposal development and oversees strategies or tactics to drive cost and product performance goals through material and labor management.
  • Understands and applies disciplined root cause analysis techniques and employs detailed monthly manufacturing reviews that are dependent on an appropriate metric set to ensure fast, steady progress in manufacturing performance and improvements.
  • Directs manufacturing planning forecasts and oversees resolution of any manufacturing schedule/plans deviations.
  • Identifies manufacturing technology alternatives to optimize performance, schedule, quality and cost.
  • Maintains master planning for all manufacturing requirements including overall manufacturing supply management.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of MRP systems to track inventory levels, locations, activities for raw material, work-in-process, finish goods inventories and manufacturing requirements in accordance with overall organizational strategy and customer requirements.
  • Drives quality into all processes and activities.
  • Develop and maintain overall Manufacturing Quality programs for the division. Team across the business Sector to leverage process, supplier and talent opportunities.
  • Ensures compliance with government requirements such as ITAR and import/export compliance regulations.
  • Develops and manages annual functional budgets. Manages all manufacturing departments to ensure effective and metric-driven performance under established processes.
  • Manages direct report leadership team including employing optimum core competencies and skill sets including hiring and training strategies.
  • Oversee and provide leadership with regards to facility maintenance and manufacturing layout. Ensure that all manufacturing personnel and processes are in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and maintain the highest safety standards for the team.
  • Maintain compliance with all L3 Technologies policies and practices and regulatory requirements as well as ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (BS/BA) in a technical field (eg, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.)MBA preferred.
  • Prefer10+ years of experience in Manufacturing, preferably in an aerospace product manufacturing environment, with five (5+) years in a leadership capacity leading and motivating a large and diverse workforce. .
  • Proven track record with the implementation of lean manufacturing and six sigma principles with an emphasis on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Strong background in all aspects of manufacturing with emphasis on supply chain management, such as material planning and procurement; subcontracts management; inventory control management; production planning; setting production requirements and managing execution; and material movement; and quality assurance; effective use of MRP system.
  • Must have a strong understanding of Government contracting requirement, such as FAR, ITAR, etc., and familiar with DOD/MIL standards and military equipment qualification process.
  • Must have an understanding of Part 145 and Part 21 manufacturing environments and requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, decision making skills and with root cause analysis.

Perferred Skills:

  • Strong skills preference beyond Manufacturing, to include broad experience in Supply Chain, Program Management, Engineering or with P&L experience.
  • Exceptional leadership, decision making skills and with root cause analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, process and execution focused.

  • Strong Lean, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement methodologies. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certifications desired.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and executive presentation skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, and, most importantly, promote collaboration among the team.

  • Applicable Industry certifications, such as APICS (American Production & Inventory Control Society), etc. and participation in relevant professional organizations.

  • Excellent computer skills with strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite. Experience developing and driving ERP implementation with Systems such as SAP or Deltek CostPoint software.
