The President and Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of Strategic Initiatives reports to the Chancellor. The PVC oversees the strategic positioning for Metropolitan Community College as it relates to expanding the footprint and services of the institution in the Kansas City Metropolitan region. The PVC also serves as the chief executive officer of the Longview campus, serving as a key and vital member of the organizations executive leadership team. The PVC is responsible for the overall operations and management for the campus, strategically planning initiatives that contribute to the vitality, growth, and educational vibrancy of Metropolitan Community College, the greater Kansas City region, and beyond. The campus president is expected to become an integral part of the community, interacting proactively with key stakeholders.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Make decisions based on MCC Board policies, District Goals, and the Chancellor’s vision. Organize and lead campus operations and the day-to-day campus management.
  • Responsible for administering and providing final oversight on all campus budgetary actions while supporting MCC fiscal management, resource development, and community relations.
  • Responsible for strategic positioning of the institution for campus expansion and renewal.
  • Provides leadership to academic and student services functions while working in a shared services model, including enrollment services, financial aid, academic support, and student services. Work collaboratively with other members of the executive cabinet to set and execute short-term and long-term strategy.
  • Lead the campus in a shared governance model, working collaboratively with faculty and staff to fulfill the mission and vision of MCC.
  • Ensures the campus is achieving high levels of student success including student retention, transfer, and completion.
  • Maintains positive and strong relationship with faculty, staff, community leaders and other key stakeholders, forming strategic alliances that collaboratively solve challenges of the institution, the regions, and the state.
  • Partners with community leaders to assess educational and social needs of the Kansas City Metropolitan region.
  • Attends multiple and high-level local, regional, and state events to leverage key resources to enhance the position and status of Metropolitan Community College.
  • Engage in key institutional advancement, networking, and community building responsibilities as part of MCC’s strategic advancement team supporting the MCC Foundation.
  • Effectively builds capacity of the institution to meet the needs of students and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversees the development of and/or develops and administers a variety of budgets; approves expenditures; reviews financial statements; manages financial operations.
  • Work with industry leaders, local economic development groups, and other officials to promote expanding industry initiatives, while forming with relationships with civic and political leaders.
  • Identifies opportunities to align Metropolitan Community College with the greater community, especially where the college’s footprint is concerned.
  • Manage the political landscape required to develop strategic partners to advance the mission of the college.
  • Develop entrepreneurial approaches for enhancing capital at the college.
